The Private Debt Department:

BlueBay’s Private Debt strategy was initiated in November 2011 as part of the Global Leveraged Finance strategy. The strategy aims to deliver holistic financing solutions across the entire capital structure to European mid- and upper mid market companies. This is in response to the financing gap created by the retrenchment of traditional bank lenders, who have been reducing their corporate loan books (in particular loans to small and medium-sized enterprises) in response to stricter capital and liquidity regulation as well as legacy issues following the financial crisis.

Programme Structure:  The Private Debt Internship programme will be 6 months long (commencing around mid-January 2018 ) and focus primarily on giving the intern the opportunity to gain an understanding of and be involved in day-to-day investing, marketing, portfolio monitoring and investor relations work.  The successful Private Debt intern will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the department as a whole and be involved in day-to-day projects and tasks as well as observe and learn from BlueBay employees on more sensitive tasks.  In addition to on-the-job training and support, interns are invited to attend a one-day Introduction to Asset Management course, comprising an interactive session in the morning with an external training provider, followed by lunch with the CEO and Head of HR, and then afternoon presentations from Partners or Department Heads from across the business. Interns also attend tailored Make the Most of Your Internship at BlueBay sessions throughout their programme, to enhance and develop both their professional and personal skills whilst deepening their understanding of BlueBay.

 During the internship, structured and detailed performance feedback will be provided to interns.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: The Intern will work within the Private Debt team, as part of the Global Leveraged Finance strategy. Key responsibilities when working for Private Debt team will include:  Supporting the team in the day-to-day job of credit investing (including due diligence, financial analysis, writing investment memoranda and deal execution). This will include:  Extensive financial modelling and scenario analysis; returns calculations and assessment of sensitivity to various scenarios.  Conducting hands-on due diligence incl. commercial and strategic due diligence with third party providers.  Summarising key findings of independent company assessment for the credit committee being directly involved in the investment process.  Getting an insight into legal documentation of credit investments incl. the various ways downside protection is ensured.  Supporting the team in the day-to-day job of portfolio monitoring.  Investor relations, including responding to investor due diligence questions / requests and fundraising activities, as appropriate.  Preparation of marketing materials.  Participating in / observing credit committee meetings. Attention to detail, a strong analytical capacity and effective communication skills are essential for this role.

Personal Skills and Experience: Essential:  Degree educated with at least a 2:1 achieved at year 2 and expected or achieved 2:1 final grade.  Final-year university student or recent graduate, with an excellent overall academic profile.  Very strong analytical capability, both quantitative and qualitative.  Excellent communication skills and a strong capacity and desire to use initiative.  Ability to provide examples of a pro-active approach to your personal development.  Good proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint. Desirable:  Proficiency in a second (European) language
