September Suspensions:

1 = Fighting 2 = Disorderly conduct

Referred - 0 - Students for Due Process Hearing -0- (-0- Male / -0-Female) Principal’s Summary:

We had many highlights during the month of September at Magma Ranch. The first was our positive feedback from parent teacher conference nights. Many parents shared great news with us about how well their children are doing and what a great start we have had this year. During both conference nights, we had the Scholastic Book Fair open and our librarian, Mrs. Pennell reported that we sold just over $3000 worth of merchandise. She will use the profits to enhance our library book collection and buy more book ends. Our student council hosted our first “Read A Thon” fundraiser and raised just over $500 for our students. This was the first fundraiser that we have hosted where our fundraising produced 100% profit! We are happy to share that our Boys Baseball B-Team went to the finals and placed second this year. We were proud of their efforts and hope they will finish in first place next year! As we gear up for October, our staff is anxious to attend the Beyond Textbooks Program Training. Many teachers have previewed the “curriculum calendar” and other resources that go with the Beyond Textbook Program and feel this will be a positive addition to our district. We have had many ongoing professional development trainings at our school where several teachers on staff have taken new leadership opportunities to conduct specific trainings and begin presenting to their fellow colleagues. These trainings have included: Galileo Data Analysis, The Teaching Edge, ALEKS Math Software and Power Teaching Strategies. Next month we will continue to focus on the Teaching Edge Modules, Galileo Instructional Dialogues, A.R., Focus Walls/Small Reading Group Instruction and the new Beyond Textbooks Program.

The challenges that we have faced this month have been finding a replacement teacher for our 7/8 math teacher, Mr. Porter. We are happy to introduce our newest staff member taking Mr. Porter’s place, Jane Walker. An interesting bit of information is that Ms. Walker went to elementary school with Mr. Jimenez and sat next to him in the second grade. She has over twenty years experience teaching junior high math and is a welcome addition to our staff. We are looking forward to another great quarter with more positive Mustang News to share.
