September 22, 2017 7:30 pm at Trinity Church ROCK OF ALL AGES: CHRISTINE OHLMAN GETS DOWN — IN CHURCH!

Christine Ohlman’s style, dubbed, by no less than Rolling Stone Magazine co-founder Dave Marsh, “Contemporary Rock R n’B”, will be on full display at New Haven’s Trinity Church On The Green’s “Music For Music” Series on September 22. Joined by the Boys and Girls Choirs of Trinity (the series benefits the choir program), Ohlman will celebrate the themes of Love and Water. “'The River of Love' has never been needed more than now", she said recently. “I know this concert will be a healing, beautiful thing."

“Then God Created Woman,” from her first CD “The Hard Way,” finds Adam alone in the Garden of Eden, contemplating his fate. “The Cradle Did Rock” takes the listener to the first post-Katrina Mardi Gras and calls to mind the recent flooding in the Crescent City that has once again taxed Ohlman's many friends and collaborators there. “Love Is Love,” “The Wish,” and “I Prefer” are all anthems for our time, when choosing love is, indeed, the only answer. “The Gone of You” and title track “The Deep End,” (on which the choirs will join her) from Ohlman’s five-time national end-of-year-top-ten-list- winning latest release, plumb the dual joys and deep heartache of what Ohlman likes to call, “the love thing.” And, known for legendary vinyl collection of Southern Soul music, Ohlman always brings to her audiences a taste of the Deep South. Al Green’s “Take Me To The River,” the Staple Singers’ “Wade in The Water,” and the folk anthem “The Water Is Wide" (she will be joined, again, by the choirs on these), and a little-known gem, “Cry Baby Cry” (which featured Dion in a poignant duet with Ohlman on The Deep End CD), will all compliment Ohlman’s own compositions.

NEW HAVEN — Trinity Church on the Green will rock Friday, September 22nd when Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez present a special concert featuring songs from her six commercial CDs as well as her upcoming album. The benefit concert is the sixth presentation of Trinity’s “Music for Music” (M4M) concert series, which benefits the church’s outstanding music program. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. September 22nd at Trinity Church, 230 Temple Street, New Haven. As a special attraction Ohlman and her longtime band, Rebel Montez —Cliff Goodwin, guitar, bassist Michael Colbath and native New Havener Larry Donahue on drums — will perform 4 select pieces with choristers of the renowned Trinity Boys Choir and Trinity Girls Choir. These include “Wade in the Water,” “The Deep End” and Al Green’s hit single “Take Me to the River.” Known as the “Beehive Queen” for her gravity-defying bouffant, Ohlman is best known as a longtime vocalist with NBC's Saturday Night Live Band. Earlier this year the New Haven favorite was inducted into the American Heritage International Organization’s Blues Hall of Fame. Ohlman is fresh from sold-out appearances at both the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s 2016 David Bowie Tribute Concert and the W.C. Handy Music Festival in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Founded in 1885, the Trinity Boys Choir is one of the oldest such choirs in the U.S. Its sister ensemble, the Trinity Girls Choir, was created in 2003. Accompanied by professional adult singers, the groups lead worship services at Trinity Church throughout the academic year. Young singers from both choirs, ranging from eight years old to high-school age, earlier this summer completed a two-week musical tour of the United Kingdom. This queen of blue-eyed rock n' soul, who grew up loving equally the sweetness of a Memphis horn line and the raunch of an electric guitar riff--whether played by Muddy Waters, Keith Richards, or Pop Staples--teased her blonde hair into a beehive in honor of Ronnie Spector and never looked back. Known to tell audiences:” I come here tonight to set your souls on fire," - on September 22nd- she will! Tickets are $30 ($10 with student ID), available in advance or at the door. Advance sponsorship packages available including premium tickets and program listing. Call 203-624-3101 or visit : http://trinitynewhaven.org/christine-ohlman/
