Conexiones Choose one project from the following. This is an at home project and is worth 2 major grades. It is due on or before May 1, 2017. Plan ahead. It requires time to complete. Each project has two parts. Questions? Ask Sra. Jeffery ------El crítico de comida Do you love to eat? Cook? This connection project gets you out into the community to try different Spanish/Hispanic foods and then gives you the opportunity to create a dish. PART ONE 1. Visit (4) different restaurants. They must be authentic (no taco bell). If they are not on the approved list below – you must get permission from Ms. Jeffery prior to going.
At the restaurant – make your selection in SPANISH.

2. Take 1 picture of yourself in front of each restaurant and 1 picture of yourself with your meal.
3. Type written and in Spanish, write a 125 word summary of your experience. What did you order? What did you like/not like? Would you recommend this restaurant? Include your pictures on the same sheet of paper. TURN IN: A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name and four different restaurant reviews/pictures. Approved restaurants: Taco Regio, Casa Vaqueros, Los tíos, Eduardos (Mexican), Rincon Criollo Cuban, Café Piquet, La Vina (Cuban), Mi pueblito, La Fogota (Colombian) , Rioja Tapas, Mi Luna, Andalucia Tapas (Spanish), Saldivias South American Grill (Argentina and Uruguay) La Casona Tica Bar and Restaurant (Costa Rica). PART TWO 1. Decide on an authentic dish from a Spanish speaking country you would like to prepare at home. 2. Film yourself preparing the dish and giving step by step instructions in Spanish. TURN IN: a MP3 which demonstrates your food preparation and a hard copy of your recipe and where it comes from. ------El Artista Do you love to paint, draw, or create things artistically? This project allows you to connect what you love to do with Spanish artists. PART ONE 1. Choose (4) different artists from the list below. You will research their lives and their unique styles which made them famous. 2. Type written and in Spanish, write a 125 word summary on each artist and include answers to the following questions: Where are they from? What are some unique things/stories that made them who they were? What or who influenced them? Do you like or dislike their style? Why or why not? TURN IN A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name and your four biographies and pictures of each artist. PART TWO 1. Using paint/colored pencils/chalk or water colors create a picture that is either a replica of one of theirs or is your idea but in their style. These should be done on 8 ½ x 11 art paper or larger. TURN IN: Your artwork with your name
El TELEADICTA Do you love to sit on the couch or in a comfy chair and watch hours of TV? This connections project is perfect for you! You will get credit for watching TV… Spanish TV. PART ONE 1. Choose 4 different programs you will watch. These aren’t movies but a running series such as news, telenovela, game show, weekly drama or comedy. You will need to record when and how long you have watched but must have a total of 16 hours total. For example: You choose to watch online news broadcasts from Spain. You can watch whenever you want but you must total 4 hours of this particular resource. This website allows you to choose the country! http://broadcast-live.com/nations.html There is also a website that slows down the Spanish for you to help you get an ear for it. Google – news in slow Spanish. Take notes! 2. Type written and in Spanish, write a 125 word summary on each program that you watched which gives a summary of the 4 hours total – the things you liked or agreed with and the things you did not. Describe what you watched. TURN IN: A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name, a TV program watch log (include date/time/program/ and how long you watched) and summaries of the four different shows that you watched. You will also need to include a picture/symbol/ or visual image that represents that show. PART TWO 1. Choose one of the four types of programs that you watched and create a video commercial (1-2 minutes) which describes the program and promotes viewers to watch. Be creative! TURN IN: A MP3 file of your commercial ------El CANTANTE Is your passion music? Do you like to sing? This connections project will have you up and out of your seat singing your heart out! Choose a singer from the list below (or have Sra. Jeffery preapprove) and get the microphone out. Want to do a duet? Sure! Partner up with another student but make sure the songs have two parts (example: Enrique Iglesias and Nikki Jam) Enrique Iglesias/Juanes/Jennifer Lopez/Shakira/Ricky Martin/Gloria Estefan/David Bisbal/Carlos Santana/Luis Miguel/Thalia/Mark Anthony/Dvicio/Pitbull/Nikki Jam/Celia Cruz/Chino y Nacho/ PART ONE 1. Choose 4 different singers from above. Find out about their childhood, their place of birth, how they got their big break, their genre of music, and their most famous songs. 2. Type written and in Spanish, write a 125 biography about each of the singers you chose. You should include a picture of each with the summary. TURN IN: A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name and your four biographies and pictures of each artist. PART TWO 1. Choose one of the singers above and create a music video based on one of their songs but sung by you. Be creative with your music video. It should not just be a video of you standing and singing into a microphone but include a “story”. TURN IN: A MP3 of your music video
El Fanático de deportes Do you spend your days outside playing soccer? Is your greatest dream to have a ticket to the World Cup to watch your team battle it out for the grand prize? In this connections project you can watch sports, play sports, and teach someone else your sport. PART ONE 1. Choose a sport that is popular in Spanish speaking countries (Soccer, Baseball (Caribbean) , Jai-Ali (Spain), Bull fighting). Research 4 different people who “play” that sport. You will need to find out about where they were born, their childhood, what led them to play this professional sport, and what makes them stand out as a player. 2. Type written and in Spanish, write a 125 biography about each of the players you chose. You should include a picture of each with the summary. TURN IN: A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name and your four biographies and pictures of each artist.
PART TWO 1. Using the sport you chose above, create a 2-3 minute instructional video in SPANISH on how to play the game. You will need to have someone to teach (a sibling or friend). You will give clear step by step instructions and then demonstrate. TURN IN: A MP3 file of your demonstration ------El VIAJERO Have you always dreamed of traveling the world? Are you the kind of person who will do a study abroad in High school or college? If so, this is the Connections project for you. Dream big and see the world! PART ONE 1. Choose four different Spanish speaking countries that you would be interested in visiting one day. You will research these countries and be able to answer questions about location, culture, cuisine, customs, currency, and places to see within the country. 2. Create a travel brochure that highlights your four countries. Include pictures and be sure to include answers to all of the information above. This should be done neatly (on the computer) and be in Spanish. Include how much a round trip ticket would cost from Houston to your country in your brochure. TURN IN: Your brochure PART TWO 1. Create 4 short video clips where you will describe a place using culture, currency, cuisine, and pictures of iconic things without telling where you are. It will be like the popular “Where in the world is Carmen Santiago” with clues. The videos will be compiled into on MP3 file and you must be in the videos. TURN IN: A MP3 file of your program
El Bailarín Are you a person who expresses themselves through movement? Is dancing with the stars your favorite show? Then put on your dancing shoes because this is the project for you! In this connections project you will choose a Spanish dance and bring it to life as you teach others. This connections project is a perfect idea for two! PART ONE 1. Choose three different types of Spanish dances from the list below. You should be able to answer questions such as the origin of the dance, where it is from, and a description of it. You will also compare and contrast the different dances. 2. Type written and in Spanish, you will write a 5 paragraph essay (500 word) which will describe three different dances. In your introduction and conclusion you will address the differences and similarities of each of these dances. Be sure to include your preference and why. TURN IN: A typed title page with your name, class period, and project name and your essay PART TWO 1. With your chosen dance, create a 2-3 minute instructional video in SPANISH on how to dance your 3 dances. You will need to have someone to teach (a sibling or friend). You will give clear step by step instructions and then demonstrate. TURN IN: A MP3 file of your demonstration ------
El POETA Y El ESCRITOR Do you express yourself with words? Do you enjoy writing? Then pull out your pen and get ready to be creative. In this connections project you will write a poem! Your theme will be “love” but it can be anything that you love. PART ONE 1. Write your poem. It needs to be in Spanish, type written, be your original work and include the following things: 125 words, 3 examples of a simile and/or metaphor, 3 examples of the subjunctive, 2 examples of the imperative mood (commands), 1 example of the past tense (preterit or imperfect), 1 example of a perfect tense (he hablado), and use of either pero, sino, or sino que (PreAP). TURN IN: Your type written poem with all requirements highlighted PART TWO 1. Incorporate your talent into a video presentation of your written poem. Film yourself doing something you love (it does not need to be the same thing as your poem). You can sing your poem, you can do a voice over, or you can have the words of your poem move across the screen. If you need help with technology – let me know! TURN IN: A MP3 file of your poem
