STEPHEN, 14 ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA’S MOST ADMIRED 15 PREACHERS WHOSE LIFE HAS BEEN A TESTAMENT TO 16 HIS FAITH AND BELIEF IN GOD. 17 18 Whereas, Reverend Isaac Jenkins has been a preacher for over 19 twenty-six years and is currently the pastor at Holy Rock 20 Missionary Baptist Church in St. Stephen, South Carolina; and 21 22 Whereas, Isaac Jenkins was born on December 13, 1923, in 23 Eutawville, South Carolina, to the late Johnny Jenkins and Elvira 24 Desseasure Jenkins and was the youngest of fourteen children; and 25 26 Whereas, after his father passed away, he was forced to leave 27 school and help care for his family; and 28 29 Whereas, as a young man, he had great responsibilities caring for 30 his twin sister Rebecca, his stepmother, Anna McGill Jenkins, a 31 nephew, Leroy, and a niece, Emily; and 32 33 Whereas, desiring to continue his education, Isaac went back to 34 school, taking night classes at an adult school that had recently 35 opened in Eutawville, and in 1937, he moved his family to a 36 plantation owned by Mr. Willie Gilliard; and 37 38 Whereas, in 1946, he married Ethel Lee Jamison, and they had six 39 children, four girls and two boys; and 40 41 Whereas, after working as a sharecropper for many years, in June 42 1962, he moved his family into a new home on property that
1 [4490] 1 1 belonged to his wife’s grandfather in Eutawville, and this is where 2 he lives today; and 3 4 Whereas, Isaac Jenkins received the call to serve from the Lord in 5 1977 and began his pastoral career at the Tabernacle Baptist 6 Church in Eutawville; and 7 8 Whereas, Reverend Jenkins has also been the pastor at the Chapel 9 Hill Baptist Church in Santee, South Carolina, and his current 10 church, Holy Rock Missionary, is affiliated with the Berkley 11 Union as well as the Antioch Association; and 12 13 Whereas, although he has reached the age of eighty and is now a 14 widower, he has no intention of slowing down and will remain a 15 pastor as long as the Lord will allow; and 16 17 Whereas, Reverend Jenkins has lived an extraordinary life, and the 18 members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, 19 would like to publicly recognize and thank this wonderful man of 20 God for his many contributions which have impacted the lives of 21 his parishioners throughout South Carolina. Now, therefore, 22 23 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 24 25 That the members of the House of Representatives celebrate the 26 life and good works of Reverend Isaac Jenkins, Pastor of the Holy 27 Rock Missionary Baptist Church in St. Stephen, one of South 28 Carolina’s most admired preachers whose life has been a testament 29 to his faith and belief in God. 30 31 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 32 the Reverend Isaac Jenkins. 33 ----XX---- 34
