Executive Summary
Abstract of game story
After nearly a millennium of feud between the realms, there was a tournament of champions. This tournament would decide the future of all things. Each realm would have a chance to become the ruler of all realms. Careful were they in selecting a champion for the upcoming battles.
Charlie is from the pond realm and is in thep tournament to gain control of the robots and bunnies. He will make them clean the ponds of pond realm so they don’t have to swim in their own filth.
Chip is from the silicon realm and has entered the tournament with hopes of acquiring more power for his home planet. He will use the other 2 realms as a power supply.
Ears comes from the fluffy tail realm and agreed to the tournament to put rest to the agricultural quarrel with the robots and angel fish. The bunnies try to plant carrots but the angel fish keep stealing the water and the robots are always driving in their fields. If Ears wins the tournament, he will use the other realms for agriculture and make the fish and robots harvest carrots for his realm. Game Play Look and Feel
Appearance
There are six types of screens throughout this two player game. The first screen the players come across is the main menu. Any player can control the mouse to select the play button, which will start the game. During this screen there will be a loop of music playing until a player clicks the play button.
The second screen the player will see is the character selection screen. From this screen each player takes their turn to select which character they will play as by clicking the picture of the character they want to play. Once a player has clicked their character’s image text will appear below that image saying that character has been selected for player 1 for the first selection and then player 2 for the second selection. To make it possible to know which character is played by which player it is only possible for a specific character to be chosen by one player. A music loop will also be playing on this screen until both players have selected their character.
After player one and two’s characters have been selected the players are shown the instruction screen. This screen gives a pictorial explanation of the controls used by player one and player two to move as well as to attack. When the players are clear on the controls the screen instructs them to press the space bar to begin the game play.
The main screen the players will interact with is the level screen. This screen consists of a black background and a foreground consisting of various platforms the different characters can move around on. The purpose of the game is to have two players use the keyboard at the same time to use their character’s attack to deplete the other player’s health before your own health is depleted. The health meters for both players will be displayed on the bottom of the screen containing 12 health bars. In the lower left corner the player one health will be displayed while the lower right corner will contain the player two character’s health. Chip and Charlie characters have a limit on how many projectile attacks they can have on the screen at one time. Every character has a different amount of damage they cause to other players with each attack. Each character will then play a sound when they attack or get hit by another player’s attack.
When the battle is over because one player has lost all their health bars a win screen will display. This screen will differ depending on which character won the battle. Each one of the variations on the win screen will instruct the players to hit the space bar to continue. While this screen is displayed a music clip will loop until the space bar is pressed.
The final screen shown is the credits screen that will show the team members and their main roles, the different audio assets used and which software tools were used to develop the game. This screen stays up for a set amount of time for the players to view. Once the screen’s time limit is up the character selection screen will be displayed again so that the game can be replayed with the same or different characters.
Player roles and actions
Character Type: Robot Bunny Angel Fish
Name: Chip Ears Charlie Attack Type: Laser Jump on you Halo launch Attack Power: High Medium Low Movement Speed: Slow Fast Medium The role of each player is to use their specific character’s attack to decrease the other player’s health until it is entirely depleted. They must also not let their own health be depleted by avoiding the other player’s attacks.
Each character has a predefined set of actions that they can perform during the game play. These actions consist of player one using the arrow keys to move, P to attack. Player two can complete these same actions using a different set of keys. The keys allocated to the second player are W, A, S, D for moving, V for attacking.
Ears is the only character that will be affected by gravity while he hops around on the ground and jumps up onto platforms. The robot Chip and the angel fish Charlie will fly/hover around the level without flying or hovering through any of the platforms. The long range attacks of the robot’s laser and the angel fish’s halo attack will travel straight out from the character moving horizontally across the screen at a constant velocity. These attacks will be stopped by platforms that are in the attack’s path.
Strategies and motivations
There are various strategies that each player can implement that will best suit their character’s skills to give them the best opportunity to win the battle.
The hit and run strategy will be the motto of the bunny since it has a medium attack and lightening fast movements. Guard your greed is the creed of the robot due to its serious weapon damage and because it is slow. Since the angel fish is a well rounded warrior, it can stand its ground while delivering a devastating blow that allows it to maintain the upper hand with rapid fire during a full frontal assault. The player’s are motivated to play because they get to go up against a friend in battle and try to defeat them to become the champion. With a variety of characters to choose from friends can go up against each other again and again choosing a different match up of characters each time.
Level summary/story progression
The story begins with the start of the tournament where players choose which characters they will progress the story with. Once players pick their characters the final battle begins.
During the battle players attack each other with their character’s attack until one of them is out of health. Then the battle is over and a champion of the realms is named.
Hardware/Software Specification
Windows
2.33GHz or faster x86-compatible processor Microsoft® Windows® XP (32-bit), Windows Server® 2003 (32-bit), Windows Server 2008 (32-bit), Windows Vista® (32-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Mozilla Firefox 4.0 and above, Google Chrome, Safari 5.0 and above, Opera 11 128MB of RAM; 128MB of graphics memory Development Tools
We used GIMP and Photoshop to develop sprites and the other art assets for our game.
Sound assets were modified using FAE systems free audio editor and implemented them using
SFXR. To develop the code we wrote using ActionScript 3 in Flash Develop and developed the platform layout in OGMO editor. Flash Player 10.3 was used to run the game in debug mode. Algorithm Style
The algorithm style of this game is a 2D side view. On screen will be the whole battle field with platforms. Using the side view option players will be able to see their characters and their attacks better. Side view also allows the use of platforms better than other options such as top view.
In the game we will implement physics such as gravity to keep the players on the platforms and range attacks will move at a constant velocity across the screen.
