Dear Families of St. Edmund

Training in the Faith begins at a very early age. As you teach your child to love God, learn his or her prayers and bring the child to Church with you, you are instilling a love of the Faith in them. Faith development can be encouraged in so many gentle and creative ways even at a young age and continues as the child matures and develops a connection to the Catholic Faith.

St. Edmund Parish has a Pre-Kindergarten Religious Education program for three and four year olds. The program catechist is a well-trained individual and is assisted by a very capable high school student.

The Kindergarten Religious Education program is designed especially for five year olds. The program catechist is a well-trained and energetic, who is also assisted by a very capable high school student.

The 1st grade through 8th grade program is designed to help the child continue to grow in the faith as well as prepare for reception of the Sacraments. The Religious Education and Sacramental preparation program is family friendly and family orientated. To further enhance the faith development Family Faith Events are held a number of times during the year so that the child and all family members can experience a special celebration time together!

The entire Religious Education program is staffed by volunteer Catechists and Parent Aides who have been trained in Catechesis, Protecting God’s Children, and have been background checked by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Many of these volunteers have been with St. Edmund program for over 20 years.

The program meets on Sunday mornings from 10:30am until 12:00pm. A ‘family friendly’ Mass is available just before class at 9:00am in the Church which includes a Children’s Liturgy of the Word session for the youngsters. The program begins with an Open House/Book Fee Day on August 27,2017 and the regular session begins on September 10, 2017. We invite you to join us and ask that you extend this invitation to any friends and neighbors with children who would be interested in the Religious Education program.
