2013/2014 Varsity Boys Basketball

Player and Parent Regulation Guide

Preseason

Tryouts --- will be M, T, W Nov. 11, 12 and 13 from 3 to 6:15pm. There will be a team meeting at 2:30 each of those days.

Cutting the Team --- Tryouts may be extended for five days or through the weekend. With the anticipated extension of the fall sports season all candidates trying for Varsity have to assume that tryouts may be prolonged into the second week with the possibility of still being released from the squad.

Forming the Team --- the team will be made up of a balance of upper and lower classmen who demonstrate the ability to pass, dribble, shoot, rebound and defend at the highest level. Special attention will be paid to players’ ability to play guard, forward or center across a depth chart that expects to play this winter but also in the future.

Team Rules --- Effort is non-negotiable and players are expected to be on time when time matters and to refrain from profanity. It is understood that in order for a player to play in a game, he has to practice.

School Requirements --- players are expected to remain eligible and to attend all classes every day. Any behavior that brings discredit to our program on or off the court will be addressed by the coaching staff and/or administration of LBSS.

Holiday Planning --- it is assumed that any candidate for the team understands that we practice/scrimmage over the Thanksgiving Day holiday as well as practice and play games (The Glory Days Holiday BB Tournament) over the Christmas Holidays. Those players who are at practice will play in games. For those who choose to vacation and miss practices/games it is understood that they will forfeit the right to come back and play. This issue is addressed every year at parent night’s and we have stated in the past that on the FR and JV levels we are not such sticklers but that Varsity players should invite their families into town to watch them scrimmage or play in games.

Locker Room --- will not be available until conclusion of fall sports.

Season

Practice Time --- all practice times are subject to change for various reasons. However, the predetermined practice time for Boys Basketball is 3-6pm but we usually 3-5:30 until first game, 3-5 during season and 3-4:30 during playoffs. Saturday practice time is 11-2 but we usually go 11-1 or 12-2. Any change to this pattern will be communicated from the coaching staff or through our Team Mom, Rita Gregorits. It is assumed that any candidate plans on practicing M-S and every day except Sundays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, the coaching staff will be giving some relief around the holidays where the players might get two, maybe even three days off, but because of the extension of fall season and the beginning of games in early Dec. and the tournament dates of Dec 26, 27 and 28, these days off are not able at this time to be set in stone. Parents, relatives and friends may not attend practice. The fact that other players are being coached and critiqued about their strengths and weaknesses is not for public consumption. Only the basketball team and medical staff are to be in attendance during practice.

Game Time --- Games are slated for Tuesday and Friday nights at 7:30. Please check the website for any changes with special attention to boys/girls doubleheaders and possible Saturday night games. With the extension of the fall season certain games may be postponed per agreement within schools. All players will take the bus to away games; however, return trips will be with parents. Players may only ride back from a game with their parent or with the parent of another player. Any player who does not ride home from an away game with his parent or another parent faces dismissal from the team.

Meet the Coach Night --- Wednesday, November 20th at 7pm in cafeteria. It is assumed that one parent will be in attendance. If the roster has not been finalized by this point, all parents of prospective candidates are free to attend.

Spirit Gear --- players will have the opportunity to purchase spirit gear with LB Basketball on it. Most years’ we try to purchase a nice sweat suit as well as some unique t-shirts and such. We try desperately to keep this amount at approximately $100 dollars. Player’s this year will be allowed to purchase their practice gear, only if they wish, for an added price.

Pictures --- tentatively scheduled for Dec 16-20th.

Booster Club --- we highly suggest that all parents of players be involved with our booster club. We need representation on the booster club for financial support this year and beyond.

Locker Room --- once Locker room is released to us, our players are to maintain its appearance by cleaning up after themselves and keeping the room hygienic. Also behavior in the Locker Room without adult supervision must be at a high standard and maintained by returning players. Players have to provide their own locks. Do not leave anything in the locker room unlocked and do not leave anything of value in the locker room at any time, locked or unlocked.

Hazing --- no hazing in any way will be tolerated and perpetrators will be removed from the team.

Inclement Weather --- all changes will be on the Hot line 703.827.7990 and communicated through the staff and team mom.

Communication --- Coach Metress can be contacted at the BB Office at 703.426.1068 or through email at [email protected]. Email is the preferred method of communication. If you feel that your son is being treated poorly or is being put in harm’s way please feel free to contact us.
