National Taiwan Normal University Guidelines for Student Dormitory Health and Safety Inspection

1. Guidelines for Student Dormitory Health and Safety Inspection (hereafter “the Guidelines”) are stipulated according to the University’s Regulations for Student Dormitory Administration. 2. The purpose of the Inspection is to enhance the quality of dormitory environment, ensure dormitories’ health and safety, and to encourage students to cultivate good living habits. 3. Inspection standards a. No items shall be placed outside the regulated areas on the corridors except for shoe cabinets. Area arrangement differs from dorm to dorm. Please refer to Attachment 1 for detailed standards for each dorm. Recycling boxes will be jointly set up by individual dormitories based on needs. b. The Inspection is combined into the service learning program, under which dormitory residents shall take turns in offering their services in the service areas as designated by the dormitory and receive service hours in their digital learning portfolios in return. 4. Implementation: a. Composition of the inspection team: the inspection team comprises Director, Division of Student Housing Affairs, Director, Division of Student Affairs on Gongguan Campus, Director, Division of Student Affairs on Linkou Campus, dormitory counselors/administrators and student teams. b. Inspection criteria: see Attachment 2. c. Inspection procedures: 3 inspections (1 for the final exam week) will be carried out weekly starting from the second week after teaching begins in the semester. Violations against the standards stipulated in the Guidelines will be recorded on the inspection chart; the results will be announced and serve as a basis for future disciplinary actions. d. Scoring: Each room will be inspected as a whole; failing the inspection will result in 1 point being deducted each time. No more than 3 cumulative points will be deducted each week; academic year-based accommodation and summer accommodation are subject to different processing rules. e. Filing for appeals: inspection results are announced in the next week following the inspection; any request for appeals shall be submitted to dormitory counselors within a week; late submissions will not be processed. f. Score enquiry: dormitory residents can access their individual cumulative scores for the academic year in the students’ dorm application system 5. Disciplinary rules a. Disciplinary points received based on the Guidelines will count toward the individual student’s cumulative score for the academic year b. For rooms/individuals with repeated poor performances whose cumulative disciplinary points reach 5 points, a notification will be sent to the resident’s department military instructor/dormitory committee and leader of the floor. When 10 disciplinary points have been accumulated, the resident’s priority on dormitory application for the next academic year will be lowered by one level. Meanwhile, a notification letter will be sent to the military instructor of his/her department/institute as well as parents. Should a resident receives 30 disciplinary points, he/she will be evicted from the dormitory. c. Serious violations will be processed on a case-by-case basis according to University regulations. The Guidelines are enacted by the Meeting of Student Affairs. The implementation and amendment of the Guidelines shall be made upon President’s approval.
