Join us in celebrating our 18th year in producing one of the most dynamic Latina programs in our community. This annual conference, for which Latina History Day in California was created, draws over 600 women to celebrate the historic accomplishments of Latinas and presents forums on corporate advancement, the state of public education, and financial empowerment. Cornerstones of the conference are the inspirational keynote speakers who are always motivating, charismatic, passionate, and entertaining. Latina History Day is the only conference in Los Angeles that is designed specifically to meet the needs of Latina professionals; offering her resources, skills development, and networking opportunities to advance her career.

Community Track| The Latina Voice: Education Policy Reform Senator Gloria Romero (Invited)

The community track session is designed for Latinas who are interested in making a difference in their communities through the policy process. In California less than 10% of Latinas have a college degree. This translates into fewer opportunities for advancement and lower earning potential for the more than 90% that do not. Join this discussion with leaders in education on various reform efforts and enrichment programs that have 1 been adopted to address college preparedness. Learn how you can get involved in your our community to ensure that the opportunity of college is available to all Latinas.

Financial Track| Financial Makeovers

A makeover is a fresh start towards feeling confident and in control, especially in today’s economy. Three conference participants were chosen to receive financial makeovers from a Wells Fargo senior financial consultant and their experiences will be shared to offer insight on how you can make positive changes in your finances. Each of these women represents common situations faced by Latinas at different stages in their lives, and our panel will help navigate through the challenges and give you the needed tools to achieve financial independence.

Career Track| Making a Career Transition: Finding the Guts to Pursue Your Dreams

Today’s professional woman is constantly developing her strengths and making difficult decisions to advance her career aspirations. The pursuit of the “dream job” is a journey filled with obstacles and personal introspection. This workshop will introduce participants to a panel of women who have made career transitions and met their challenges head on.

Community Track| Census 2010: The Next Civil Rights Priority

Census data is used by policy makers, researchers, planners, foundations, businesses and community organizations to inform vital decisions. These decisions affect all aspects of our communities including funding levels and elected representation. The U.S. House of Representatives and the Obama Administration have recognized the importance of the 2010 Census by including $1 billion of Census funding in the economic stimulus package. This session will discuss national and local strategies to make sure the Latino population is accurately counted. Learn how you can get involved to ensure a full count of our communities that will guarantee we receive the services necessary to meet the need.

Financial Track| Financial Solutions for Challenging Economic Times

Everyone is feeling the effects of the current economy in different ways. While we are in a difficult period, you do have the power to make choices that will help you protect yourself and your family. Moderated by ABC7’s Consumer Specialist Ric Romero, this panel of presenters will offer advice that protects the consumer. Panelists will discuss creating and maintaining a budget, coaching participants on how to protect current assets, and how to cut expenses while maintaining the same lifestyle.

Career Track| Advancing Latinas in Corporate America

HOPE will report initial findings from the Corporate Track Study to better understand the experience of Latinas in Corporate America. In addition, a panel of executives and corporate managers will share their personal journeys through Corporate America. They will discuss challenges Latinas face in climbing the corporate ladder, advances that have been made through corporate diversity programs, work-life balance, cultural implications on career advancement, and understanding the corporate culture in order to get ahead.

After the lunch Conference participants will be invited to an afternoon of networking with California’s most dynamic, inspiring, and successful Latinas. The network also features an exhibit area with vendors showcasing beautiful wares and organizations offering valuable information. There will also be book signing area with Latina authors as well as spa stations where women can enjoy an afternoon of pampering with chair massages, hand massages, and mini-manicures by Salon Balleza, a local Latina-owned full service day spa.
