Modernist scholars condensing/denying scriptures. Liberal attitudes ignore scripture/presume they’re right. Mormons teach doubt door to door - doubt the translation, claim much left out and lost. Denominations teach there are different interpretations and many believe they just cannot understand it. ...Must ask... where did we get it? How did we get it? And is it trustworthy?

I. Where Did We Get It, Originally? A. O.T. - 36-40 authors, over 15 centuries 1. Law, history, poetry, wisdom, & prophecy 2. Moses started with Pentateuch, books added over years a. used to deny it, but “writing” pre-dated Moses 3. Exodus 17:14; Numbers 33:2; Joshua 24:25; 1 Samuel 10:25; Jeremiah 36:2 B. How can we know out OT is the same as Israel’s? 1. It’s the same bk. present day Jews have used thru ages a. means much if Jewish copying is understood b. Massora copyists protected it back to 5th century AD c. numbered words, phrases, burned pages w/errors 2. About 270 BC, Septuagint was begun, Greek OT a. Jesus/apostles quoted from it, Christians used it for centuries 1) Jesus testified to accuracy every time he quoted it b. Our OT harmonizes with the LXX 3. 1948, Qumran - dead sea scrolls discovered in 11 caves a. 900 documents of all kinds including Hebrew Biblical texts b. includes complete scroll of Isaiah, 100-200 BCE 4. 1st century testimony of Josephus 5. It’s a moral certainty that we have the true word of God a. man in car, doctor in cab, diagnosed with append...morally b. moral truth vs. absolute truth

C. N.T. - 8 authors, also grew slowly over 60 years 1. How can we know that our N.T. is the same as Paul’s? 2. Can compare to 15th century Bibles, printing press invented 3. Can compare it to 4th cent. mss. a. Vatican mss.-4th century, practically all of O.T./N.T. in GK 1) located in the Vatican b. Sinaitic mss. - 4th century, partial OT, all of NT 1) British Museum, Mt. Sinai Monastery, 2) Leipzig U. Library, Russ. National Library in St. Pete. c. Alexandrian mss. - earliest found uncial mss 1) British Museum, London ??? 2) different reading changed textual investigation 3) led to new branch of translations, i.e.... a) ASV, NASV, and ESV (I believe) d. All 3 MSS. discovered since 1611 and KJV 1) more mss. evidence today than in 1611 4. Can compare it 3rd cent. quotations, use of scripture 5. Can compare it with 2nd century version, quotes, testimonies a. some would have known apostles, read autographs b. Muratorian fragment, 170 AD, earliest list of N.T. books c. claims of circulated letters in 2nd century are bogus d. claims of church council in 4th century establish canon also 1) Catholic claim of giving/saving Bible is false
