The following is a summary of targeted enforcement action taken to date for 2004 related to POP #04-01 addressing traffic enforcement around Senior Center Districts.

(510) Total Citations (201) Written Warnings (305) CMVI

Majority of violations are for moving violations; Red Light, Crosswalk, Turn Violations, etc.

$17,275.00 Total Fines

February 24, 2004 Assessment Directed enforcement efforts have been provided to each Senior District in the City over the past four weeks. Traffic Units have issued (325) Citations in these designated Senior Districts to violators. The ratio of warnings vs. citations is; (117) written warnings & (208) written citations. Officers assessed $9,320 in total fines and expended 372 man hours. Officers have also handed out approximately (200) to (250) Cambridge Police “Points 4 Safety Cards” as an additional educational element of this enforcement plan. Officer Sue Kale of Community Relations has helped with this effort advising residents of Senior Housing of enforcement efforts and “Points 4 Safety Cards”.

To date the busiest locations have been; -Citywide Senior Center 806 Mass. Av. area. - Manning Apartments 237 Franklin Street area. -North Cambridge Senior Center 2050 Mass. Av. area. -Burns Apartments Mass. Av. & Churchill Av. area -Miller River Cambridge St. & Lambert St. area (moderate to slow activity)

Locations in more residential sections have been slow; -LBJ 150 Erie Street (Some sporadic speeding on Brookline Street)

P153 -JFK Apartments Essex Street (Closed for renovations) -Truman Apartments Eight Street (no violations observed) -Weaver Apartment Clifton Street (no violations observed)

NOTE: Mass & Churchill observation by Motorcycle Officers of signal light, crosswalk and location of MBTS Bus Stop. -Timing of Red Lights should be longer to allow elderly extra time to cross from West bound to East Bound lane. East bound lane currently turns green when slower citizens are still near median or in East Bound lane. -East bound MBTA Bus Stop appears to be location that Elderly resident of Burns Apartments Churchill Avenue are trying to reach after crossing both lanes of Mass. Av.

April 28, 2004 Assessment Directed enforcement efforts have been provided to the following Senior Center locations for the past week. Traffic Units have issued (64) Citations in these designated Senior Districts to violators. The ratio of warnings vs. citations is; (37) written warnings & (27) written citations. Officers assessed $2,500 in total fines and expended 40 man hours. Officers have also handed out approximately (25) to (30) Cambridge Police “Points 4 Safety Cards”.

To date the busiest locations have been; -Citywide Senior Center 806 Mass. Av. area. - Manning Apartments 237 Franklin Street area. -North Cambridge Senior Center 2050 Mass. Av. area. -Burns Apartments Mass. Av. & Churchill Av. area -Miller River Cambridge St. & Lambert St. area (moderate to slow activity)

July 19, 2004 Assessment Directed enforcement efforts have been provided periodically to the following Senior Center locations during the past three months (May 2days, June 3days, July 2days). Traffic Units have issued (121) Citations in these designated Senior Districts to violators. The ratio of warnings vs. citations is; (47) written warnings & (70) written citations. Officers assessed $5,455 in total fines and expended 96 man hours. Officers have also handed out approximately (25) to (30) Cambridge Police “Points 4 Safety Cards”.

To date the busiest locations have been; -Citywide Senior Center 806 Mass. Av. area. - Manning Apartments 237 Franklin Street area. -North Cambridge Senior Center 2050 Mass. Av. area. -Burns Apartments Mass. Av. & Churchill Av. area -Miller River Cambridge St. & Lambert St. area (slow activity)

During the Months of April, May, and August (3) inquiries from City officials were generated related to traffic violation issues in these Senior Districts:
