IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

An intensive study of water media painting with emphasis placed on the study of materials, technical applications, composition, and color theory. The works of the Old Masters and accomplished contemporary artists will be studied to support the learning process. This course may be taken for 6 credit hours.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At completion of this course, the student will have:

 Developed skillful use of material and techniques relative to the use of selected water media material.  Developed a basic understanding of color mixing and color theory.  Acquired a working knowledge of the sequential steps involved in completing a water media painting.  Studied and analyzed the works of the Old Masters and contemporary water media artists.  Completed all required research projects using the learning resources center and the World Wide Web.  Provided evidence of knowledge gathered from research.  Completed the required number of projects by the end of the term.  Participated in group discussions and critiques.

X. OTHER REQUIRED TEXTS, SOFTWARE, AND MATERIALS:

 The student will complete a research project from a list of topics attached to the syllabus. The format of the research project at the discretion of the instructor.(See instructor’s examples)  The student will keep a weekly sketchbook and journal containing thumbnail sketches and research notes related to course requirements.  The student will review periodicals, and web resources relative to the media used in this course. Written reviews will be included in the student’s journal or sketchbook. Material requirements are at the discretion of the instructor. Most materials are available in the college bookstore.)  The student should attend the first class session before purchasing supplies.

XI. EVALUATION:

 40% of the grade will be based on participation in class and attendance.  30% of the grade will be based on completion of required projects.  15% of the grade will be based on written tests, journal and research project.  15% of the grade will be based on the sketchbook.

XII. SPECIFIC MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 The student is expected to clean up their work area and work surface after each class session.  CAUTION some of the materials used in this course are hazardous. Read and follow all material warning labels and safety warnings.  The student should wash their hands before eating to avoid ingestion of hazardous materials.  Lab cleanup takes place ten minutes before the end of each session.  The student is expected to follow all instructions for proper disposal of hazardous materials.  Class size will be limited to 18 students.  Safety

XIII. OTHER INFORMATION:

 FERPA: Students need to understand that others may see their work. Others may see their work when being distributed, during group project work, or if chosen for demonstration purposes and in art project critiques. The student’s grade is not a part of this process.

 Students also need to know that there is a strong possibility that the professor will submit their work to internet entities for the purpose of plagiarism checks.
