AGHS THEATRE COMPANY CONTRACT 2014-2015 Mr. Blauvelt [email protected]

MISSION: The AGHS Theatre Program fosters an environment of artistic integrity, helpfulness, responsibility, mutual respect and excel- lence. As a courtesy to your fellow artists, be on time, organized, pre- pared, dressed appropriately and ready to work. This is an educational program. We are here to learn. Active participation and an attitude of willingness are key to your success in this class and as an artist. Learn- ing by doing is a cornerstone of this program. Respect one another and yourself. Meet all deadlines with pleasure. Find joy in your art and work.

AGHS THEATRE: All plays are open to all AGHS students. To be part of this program, you must be enrolled in both Performance Studies and Theatre Productions (period 7 & 8.) You may join the program at any grade level and are expected to stay in the program for at least one full semester. In order for your credits to qualify for college (UC or Cal State) admission, you need to stay for a full year. If you drop the class mid-semester, you will not earn any course credit. We want you to stay. Theatre credits can be used as VPA or Elective toward your graduation.

AUDITIONS: You are required to audition for every production. Every effort will be made to give you a specific job in every play- either in the cast, as an understudy, or on the production staff. All plays will be cast through school-wide auditions.

TIME COMMITMENT: This is an activity class. This is a heavy time commitment, and you shouldn’t make it unless you can handle it. Class will meet every day from 3:00 until 4:30. The week before each per- formance, dress rehearsals will be held from 3:00-9:00 pm. The production schedule for the entire academ- ic year is on the flip side of this paper.

GRADES: Grades are weighted as follows: 70% Participation 15% Performance Reviews 15% Other Assignments

ATTENDANCE: If you have to miss a rehearsal for any reason, you have the responsibility to call and let me know as soon as possible. The theatre teachers’ office phone number is 474-3200 ex. 2267. My e-mail address is: [email protected]. If you miss a dress rehearsal or a performance without a valid medical excuse or a genuine family emergency you will receive an F in both classes for the semester. If you are assigned detention, you will have to tell your administrator that you have a class until 4:30 and you will have to serve it during Saturday school or lunch. Better yet, don’t do anything that will get you assigned to detention in the first place.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE: You must maintain a minimum 2.0 (C) grade point average. If your grade is slipping in any class, you are encouraged to use our class time for tutoring, correctives, or retesting. This does not excuse you from meeting theatre class deadlines. If you are taking AP classes and are attending a full day (six classes) in addition to this class, you may opt to take Performance Studies and Theatre Produc- tions on a credit/no credit basis. You will be expected to do the same assignments.

APPEARANCE: Once you are cast in a play, you may not make any drastic changes to your appearance without your director’s approval. “Changes in appearance” include, but are not limited to: haircuts, tattoos, piercing, hair dying, etc. Failure to consult your director may result in your grade being lowered and your part being recast.

Keep this copy of the contract for your records. The calendar is on the back. ASSIGNMENTS & ACTIVITIES: You are assigned to attend a minimum of two live performances (out- side of our productions) during the semester and turn in written reviews. All reviews must be typed and are due within 2 weeks of the performance. Reviews should be submitted electronically and comply with the for- mat that will be presented in class. If you fail to turn in both reviews, the highest grade you can earn for the semester is a B. Other assignments may include: acting exercises, play readings, playwrit- ing, individual presentations, and keeping a theatre journal.

Please return this signature sheet by the end of the first week of the semester.

I have read the attached contract and agree to adhere to its contents.
