Anatomy and Physiology is offered as a year long course but can be taken as a semester class either semester. In this course we will study the structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human organism. It will expand upon concepts learned in biology and physical science. Understanding the complexities of the human body is valuable when taking care of yourself, family, or friends. Remember, this isn’t just a course in school; it is a course about YOU! . Your success in this class will result from your dedication and hard work. If you follow directions, try your best, and complete assignments, you will have a successful enjoyable experience in this class. Good luck and enjoy the semester.

ENDURING UNDERSTANDINGS/ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

After successfully completing this course will:  Understand the concepts of levels of organization in living things, homeostasis and metabolism.  Use proper terminology relating to the human body and its abnormalities.  Distinguish between the structure and functions of the systems of the human bodies.  Demonstrate an ability to make diagnoses on fictional patients based on scientific knowledge, logic and data analysis.

Required Materials: Because there are no texts in this class, students will be compiling an extensive binder throughout the semester. You will need:  3 ring binder  Colored pencils  Glue Stick  Scissors UNITS

SEMESTER 1: BRAUN AND BRAINS Unit 1: Introduction to the Human Body Unit 2: Cell Structure and Function Unit 3: Integumentary System Unit 4: Skeletal System Unit 5: Muscular System Unit 6: Nervous System

SEMESTER 2: BLOOD AND GUTS Unit 1: Cardiovascular System Unit 2: Respiratory System Unit 3: Digestive System Unit 4: Nutrition Unit 5: Urinary System/Endocrine System Unit 6: Reproductive System

Assessment

GRADING POLICY 1. Content Percentage a. Tests, Quizzes, & Projects 30% b. Assignments 30% c. Labs 20% d. Participation 20% * Engaged in discussion * Active learner * Gives appropriate feedback 2. Attendance Policy Students who are absent (not truant) are required to find out what they have missed. All missed work must be made up by making arrangements with the teacher. IT IS YOUR JOB TO ARRANGE FOR MAKE-UP WORK. You will be given the same amount of time to make up your work as the number of days you were absent. Any work missing after that time will be given a grade of zero. If you are truant for a class, all work, labs, tests, and quizzes receive a grade of zero.

Grading GRADING SCALE 93-100% "A" 73-76 % "C" 90- 92 % "A-" 70-72 % "C-" 87- 89 % "B+" 67-69 % "D+" 83- 86 % "B" 63-66 % "D" 80- 82 % "B-" 60-62 % "D-" 77-79 % "C+" Students earning below 60% will receive an "F" on their progress report.
