Course agreement / policies – By maintaining your enrollment in this class, you agree to S1. The Penn State Principles (http://www.psu.edu/ur/pdf/principles.pdf) S2. Attend class regularly. Any prolonged lapse in class attendance may result in no opportunity for makeup work or any other adjustments S3. Check grades on ANGEL (ANGEL>Grades, updated weekly unless otherwise announced) and report errors in person to the instructor within one week of their posting. Failure to do so will result in no adjustment for any reason. Ignore the percentages ANGEL computes – they do not make sense with our points based grades S4. Request no extra credit nor ask for extra points for any reason S5. Use technology (computer, tablet, cell phone, etc) during class only for class purposes. Non-class related activities may result in the confiscation of such devices for the duration of class S6. Discuss due date / time conflicts in person, by phone, or two-way conversation in ANGEL Communicate (you send the email, you receive a reply and you respond to it) with the instructor before the due date / time and provide necessary documentation. University approved conflicts (family emergencies, interviews, religious observances, University sports activities, etc) must have documentation. After any due date / time expires, there is no option for any adjustments except emergencies outlined in S7. Work sent to your instructor in email will not be graded S7. Conflicts due to serious and prolonged illness discussed after the due date / time will only be considered on an individual basis with extended illnesses requiring documentation and illnesses that cause exam reschedules possibly requiring immediate documentation. Failure to arrange make ups within one business day of returning to classes will result in no make up S8. Use ANGEL with an acceptable browser and internet connection. Completing work off campus is at your own risk – immediately contact ANGEL Support (http://kb.its.psu.edu/cms/article/191) and your instructor by phone if any submissions fail, otherwise the work will not count. If you experience an issue during a proctored quiz or exam, failure to immediately notify the proctor will result in no adjustment for that assignment S9. Check ANGEL’s Q&A Board for all course announcements prior to each class period. Post non-emergency questions about the course policies or content on the Q&A Board and respond to student questions if you know the answer S10. Send email to your instructor about private matters (general course questions go on the Q&A Board) only through ANGEL Communicate (http://kb.its.psu.edu/cms/article/383) and use proper email etiquette (http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/694/1). Messages sent to the Instructor’s PSU address will not be answered (University “best practice” to keep it all in ANGEL) S11. Come to class prepared to demonstrate what you learned in the textbook reading, ask questions, and work with classmates on everything but notes quizzes and exams. Communicating in any way (talking, texting, writing notes, sharing paper or technology, etc) with other students during notes quizzes and exams is not permitted and will result in a 0 for that assignment S12. Take responsibility for your actions and your grades; seek help from office hours as soon as you need it; do not share posted material or solutions or quiz and exam solutions with other students or non-students; do not share scrap paper during exams; do not give or sell posted notes, data, or solutions on ANGEL to anyone S13. Complete assignments in a timely manner; schedule exams at the Testing Center in a timely manner; show up for class and exams on time. Those late to lab may not receive time to complete the quiz. Those late to an exam or those who do not schedule their exam before the exam day will receive a 0 for that exam S14. Course Requirements – Semester Exams: 500 points, five cumulative etests during the semester taken at the Pollock Testing Center, you pick the time slot on the Friday exam day. You will receive an email requesting you to sign up for a time slot approximately one week before each exam date. Failure to schedule a time slot in a timely manner will result in a 0 for your exam score. Please view the material at http://testing.psu.edu/Students/ if you are unfamiliar with the testing center. If you experience technology issues during the exam, immediately report your error (S8). Failure to follow the course policies about exams or the Testing Center rules will result in a 0 for your exam score. You are allowed to have something to write with and scrap paper will be provided but must be turned in. A calculator will be embedded into the exam

Final exam: 150 points, cumulative, etest as scheduled by the University. Check LionPath for our final exam schedule (usually scheduled Thurs or Fri of finals week). If you have a conflict, you must file with the registrar’s office during the filing period; late requests will be denied. Failure to show up on time for your final exam or failure to follow the rules for the final exam will result in a 0 for your score. You are allowed to have something to write with and scrap paper will be provided but must be turned in

Lab Quizzes: 100 points, a quiz in each lab class (with the exception of exam weeks), questions about our learning objectives usually completed using statistical software Minitab with directions on ANGEL in each quiz (multiple choice, true false or matching questions, 50 minutes, one chance), due before the lab class ends. Lab quizzes are available on ANGEL from the time your lab starts until it ends, due in class 50 minutes after your lab class starts. Failure to submit the quiz on time in your assigned section will result in no score for that quiz

Notes Quizzes: 100 points, a quiz in lab class before each exam, (multiple choice, true false or matching questions based on everything that should be in your notebook for the current chapter, 50 minutes, one chance), due before the lab class ends. Notes quizzes are available on ANGEL from the time your lab starts until it ends, due in class before your scheduled lab class ends. Failure to submit the quiz before the due date / time will result in no score for that quiz

Homework Quizzes: 150 points, one quiz per week (multiple choice, true false or matching questions based on a list of questions from the textbook that you prepare before taking the quiz, 30 minutes, unlimited attempts where only the highest score counts), due before Wednesday ends each week. HW quizzes are available on ANGEL and can be done in lab class after the lab quiz or outside of the classroom on your own

Required practice: At the start of the semester, you will take a pretest and a few surveys in lab. At the end of the semester, you will take a posttest in lab. Pre and posttest scores will be compared by the department for a review of the course and are practice for your benefit

Makeup Policy (based on S1, S2, S6, S7, S12, and S13 above): Forgetting to turn in an assignment or poor performance on an assignment do not warrant a makeup; please don’t ask. Excused absences for lab quizzes will be made up with the last four lab quiz assignments listed on the calendar. Excused absences for notes quizzes will be made up at the instructor’s discretion. Homework quizzes cannot be made up. All exam makeup requests must be discussed with your Instructor prior to the due date / time of the assignment either in person with supporting documentation, over the phone (if there is no answer, leave a message slowly and clearly stating your name, course number and section number, ANGEL ID, and a way to contact you – phone number to call back, text, or email in ANGEL Communicate) with two way communication happening before the due date /time, or in ANGEL Communicate (with supporting documentation for your University approved reason and a way to complete the conversation quickly – phone number, text, or reply where you will check your email and agree to the arrangements before the due date / time) with two way communication happening before the due date /time. Requests made through the Instructor’s PSU email account will be denied. Only serious medical emergencies discussed after the due date / time may be considered on an individual basis. Conflicts for the final exam must be scheduled through the registrar’s office (www.psu.edu/oue/aappm/F-3.html). Conflict requests for the final exam after the filing period has ended will be denied. Conflicts for the final exam due to serious medical emergency or University events with supporting documentation will be considered on an individual basis

Students adding the class after the first day of classes will have one business day after enrollment to contact the Instructor about making up missed assignments; students waiting longer than this will not be able to make up missed work. Assignments regularly due for the class will start to apply to such students two business days after the day of enrollment. All agreed upon makeup work is due within five business days of enrollment in the manner discussed with the Instructor

Course Grading – All grading will be updated weekly on ANGEL>Grades. Please ignore ANGEL’s calculations of percentages as they do not make sense with our point-based grading system and may give you a wrong impression of your actual score as they do not include any assignments you have missed and may include assignments yet to be due, giving you a 0 because you have yet to complete them and thus bringing down your percentage. Check your scores regularly; failure to report discrepancies within one week of posting will result in no adjustment

Summary: Percentage conversion: Semester Exams 500 50% Final Exam 150 15% Lab Quizzes 100 10% Notes Quizzes 100 10% Homework Quizzes 150 15% Total: 1000 Total: 100%

Final scores are based on 1000 points; requests for individual adjustments for reasons not noticed until much later than the grade posting date or reasons of being just a point away from a different letter grade will be denied (no matter where the cutoff is, someone is always going to be only 1 point away); requests for extra assignments or late make ups will be denied; points are not rounded (eg, 899 or 89.9% is a B+, not an A-).

If your point total is: or you have lost up to: Your letter grade is: Percentage at least: 930 and above 70 points A 93% 900 – 929 100 points A- 90% 870 – 899 130 points B+ 87% 830 – 869 170 points B 83% 800 – 829 200 points B- 80% 770 – 799 230 points C+ 77% 700 – 769 300 points C 70% 600 – 699 400 points D 60% 599 and below 100 points F less than 60%
