SPRING GROVE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING March 8, 2016

CALL TO ORDER

The special meeting of the Spring Grove City Council was called to order by Mayor Schroeder at 7:33 P.M. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 118 1st Street NW, Spring Grove, MN.

Present:Sarah Schroeder, Mayor Scott Solberg, Council Member Rachel Olerud, Council Member Nancy Nelson, Council Member Todd Bornholdt, Council Member

Also Present: Benjamin Standahl, Police Officer Paul Folz, Police Chief Joe Hammell, City Attorney Stephanie Jaster, Administrative Assistant Jon Charles (JC) Nerstad, Citizen

OFFICER STANDAHL EMPLOYMENT

Mayor Schroeder asked if anybody present wanted to give any input prior to going into close session. Officer Standahl declined to speak at this time. JC Nerstad wanted to make sure his document had gotten to council members and if they had any questions they could ask. All members were fine and said they would discuss the document in close session. Chief Folz then presented a statement to the Council. Chief Folz gave an update of how Ben was doing, what steps have been taken to improve his work performance and gave examples. He proceeded to explain what guidance had been given and the progress after counseling sessions. Chief Folz’s final statement was Officer Standahl was notified what had to be done to improve and according to Chief Folz, Officer Standahl’s actions showed no compliance. Chief Folz’s recommendation was for immediate termination of Officer Standahl’s employment with the City of Spring Grove.

Scott Solberg motioned to go into close session, which was seconded by Todd Bornholdt.

Came back into open session at 8:23 PM. Motion made by Councilwoman Nancy Nelson to immediately terminate Officer Standahl and seconded by Mayor Schroeder. Vote was taken Council member Olerud – aye; Council member Nelson – aye; Council member Bornholdt – aye, Mayor Schroeder – Aye; Council member Solberg – nay.

ADJOURNMENT

Council Member Solberg moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Mayor Schroeder. All approved. Motion carried. The Special Meeting concluded at 8:23 p.m.
