Dear Weddington Families,

Welcome to February and the second half of our school year! Upon our return in January, the Weddington staff and students have been focusing on “SMART” goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound. Together, they created SMART goals for student achievement as a class. Teachers also worked with students to create an individual SMART goal. During Art class, our Wildcats are creating an individual art project that includes the display of their goal. Mrs. Hill, our Art Teacher, has crafted a unique mosaic display of every Wildcat goal. Feel free to stop by and check out our “Going for Our Goals” wall display!

As we begin our 4th Grading period, our wonderful teachers will continue to focus on setting and achieving SMART goals with our Wildcats. Be sure to ask your child about their class and individual goals!

Yours in education,

Kristen Sebek

From our Assistant Principal Cultural Arts Week Information:

We are excited to announce that Weddington Elementary will be holding a Cultural Arts Week for all students the week of February 20th – 24th! Throughout this week, students will receive lessons during all special area classes that focus on the continent of Asia. There will also be posters created by student council students on display throughout the school to remind all students about the weekly events. The week will end with presentations during specials time on travels to China provided by Mrs. Bomfim, Mrs. Recher, and/or Ms. Hubbard. We look forward to providing this exciting global educational opportunity for our students!

Sincerely,

Emily Kraftson

From our Guidance Counselor

Dear Weddington Families,

It is hard to believe that it is already February! Throughout the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month as a time to honor, celebrate and teach our students the importance of African American history. Each day, our broadcast team will share important facts about African American figures, milestones and achievements.

Students at WDES will be learning about different character traits each month. The character trait for the month of February is

Page 2 of 6 COMPASSION. Compassion means to have a feeling of empathy or understanding of the feelings of others. To show examples of compassion around the school, we will be looking for students showing kindness to others, encouraging classmates and helping those in need.

Sincerely,

Anna Galvin

School Guidance Counselor
