OPEN WORKING HUNTER CLASS Class 23 is a qualifying event for Horse of the Year Show 2017, NEC, Birmingham, 4th-8th October 2017 and only horses registered with the British Show Horse Association (01462437770) are eligible to enter. In Horse of the Year Show qualifiers, Horse of the Year Show rules take precedence, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk. Registration numbers must be quoted on the entry form, and owners, riders and producers must be members of the British Show Horse Association. The highest placed unqualified horse in the first three in class 23 will qualify to enter at Horse of the Year Show. No horse lower than third in its class will qualify. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show. Horses competing at the Horse of the Year Show and qualifying shows in the Hunter sections of The Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain classes at their Affiliated shows cannot compete in Hack, Cob and Riding Horse classes at the same show, on the same day and vice versa. This does not apply to SHB (GB) Ridden Sport Horse classes. HACK, COB & RIDING HORSE CLASSES Classes 1-14 are held under the rules of the British Show Horse Association (01462 437770). Horses must be registered with the Association and all owners, producers and riders must be Association members. Riders must be 15 years of age or older. Registration numbers must be quoted on entry form. Classes 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 are qualifying classes for Horse of the Year Show 2017, NEC, Birmingham, 4th-8th October 2017. In Horse of the Year Show qualifiers, Horse of the Year Show rules take precedence, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk. The first prize winner will qualify to compete at the final. If already qualified, the second will qualify. If the first and second are already qualified then the third will go forward and so forth to fifth place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show office. In accordance with BSHA rules the annual BSHA Horse of the Year Show fee of £15 must have been paid to BSHA before the entry is made if the exhibitor wishes to qualify. The BSHA Horse of the Year Show fee cannot be paid in retrospect. This fee is not the Horse of the Year Show contribution, which goes to Grandstand Media Ltd. Horses competing at the Horse of the Year Show and qualifying shows in the Hunter sections of The Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain classes at their Affiliated shows cannot compete in Hack, Cob and Riding Horse classes at the same show, on the same day and vice versa. This does not apply to SHB (GB) Ridden Sport Horse classes. Non members may purchase up to a maximum of two ‘Day Tickets’ per exhibitor, per horse, per season. A Day Ticket will allow entry into Novice, Amateur, Home Produced and Working Classes only but will not allow entry into Horse of the Year Show qualifying classes. Horses registered on a Day Ticket do not require a JMB Height certificate. Competitors can apply for a Day Ticket by downloading an application form from the BSHA website – www.britishshowhorse.org The three highest placed prize winners in all open affiliated classes will qualify to compete in the BSHA Classic Supreme Classes at the National Championship Show at Addington ( September 2017) The BSHA offers a Novice, Young Rider and Amateur rosette in each open class and a Champion rosette for each section. The Association will also award an Amateur Home Produced rosette in all Affiliated Open Cob classes ( with the exception of Open Working Show Horse, Ladies Show Horse and HOYS Hunter classes); the Cob rosettes have been kindly donated by TSG, Mr L Turley and the Maxi Cob rosettes have been kindly donated by Mr & Mrs E McCourt. The awards will go down the line; there is no limit on how many of these can be claimed in a year. BSHA AMATEUR CLASSES AMATEUR STATUS: A person is an amateur for the purposes of classes run under Association Rules if he / she does not, during the current or previous season: (i)Engage in breeding, livery, buying, selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity. (ii)Received remuneration for employment in connection with horses in racing, showing, livery stable or riding school (instruction at Pony Club or Riding Club excepted). This does not include the suppliers of ancillary services such as farriers and vets. 2 (iii)Own/Part own an equestrian establishment including but not limited to riding schools, events centre, stud or livery yard in any capacity, or receive any form of remuneration for employment at an equestrian establishment. For the avoidance of doubt for the purpose of this rule, immediate family members of an owner or part owner of an equestrian establishment who work or are howsoever otherwise engaged or involved in any capacity, whether or not for remuneration at the equestrian establishment, will be treated as being an owner of that equestrian establishment. (iv) Show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm, or act as a Brand Manager in any showing classes, BSHA or otherwise, or a horse for which his/her immediate family accepts livery or training charges from a person outside the immediate family concerned. (v)A competitor is not eligible to compete in amateur classes on an Exhibit which has been ridden by a Professional Rider in any Open classes, BSHA or otherwise, with the exception of Open Working Show Horse and Side Saddle classes, during the current year and the following year, up to but not including RIHS, unless the horse has subsequently been re registered under new Ownership. On the day when an Exhibit is competing in an Amateur class, Professionals are not allowed to ride or work in the relevant animal. No Professional Producers are allowed into the ring to groom/strip the Horse.

HUNTER CLASSES All Hunter classes will be judged under the Society’s rules and SHB (GB) requires all entries in the Hunter classes to be registered and all owners and riders to be current members. Classes 15-20 are qualifying 6 events for RIHS 2018. The entry fees in these classes include a £9 RIHS contribution. The two Highest placed horses in classes 15-20 will qualify. No horse lower than second in its class will qualify. In Classes 19 & 20 - the two highest placed Smalls and the two highest placed Lightweights will qualify and in the Heavyweight section the two highest placed Middleweights and the two highest placed Heavyweights will qualify. It is strongly recommended that competitors aged 18 or over wear Correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet one of the current Safety Standards: All PAS 015;VG1;ASTM F1163 04a onwards; SNELL E2001; AS/NZS 3838 2003 onwards. It is mandatory for competitors under the age of 18 to wear skull caps or hats. In the jumping phase of working hunter and ridden sport horse classes, the aforementioned skull caps/riding hats must be worn. Only horses on the 2017 Show Hunter Register are eligible to enter. Registration numbers must be quoted on the entry forms and owners and riders must be full members of the society. Day tickets = £30 (this entitles competitors to compete at a maximum of 1 show in the year- it covers owner and rider membership together with horse registration for that show). If the class is a qualifying class for RIHS, in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration must be received in the SHB (GB) office within 14 days. If the class is a RIHS qualifier, in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration/overstamp must be received by SHB GB within 14 days. Horses in classes 21, 22 are only required to be registered on the basic identity record or Stud Book of the Society. Any exhibit found not to be correctly registered will be disqualified. No Horse may be entered in a Ridden Hunter, Working Show Horse class or Riding Horse class at the same show. This does not apply to Working Hunter classes.

AMATEUR RIDERS CLASSES

AMATEUR STATUS: A person is an amateur for showing purposes when showing ridden hunters in an amateur class if he or she does not: a) Engage in, livery, buying, selling, dealing or hiring horses as a means of deriving a main source of income since 1st January 2015. b) Accept remuneration whether it be monetary or goods in kind for employment in connection with horses in a racing, showing, livery stable or riding school. (Instruction at Pony Club or Riding Club excepted) since 1st January 2015. c) Show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm or a horse for which his or her immediate family accepts livery or training charges from a person outside the immediate concern since 1st January 2015. d) Show a horse which a professional rider has ridden in any ridden hunter or sport horse class during the current year, unless the horse has subsequently registered under new ownership with the exception of Working Hunter & Ladies classes. e) Professional show persons must not enter the Amateur Ring whilst the classes are in progress. A professional show person is another term for a professional producer and as such a professional groom who works for a producer can enter the ring to groom. f) A professional rider must not ride or exercise an amateur’s horse on the day it is competing in amateur classes.

Any horse that qualifies for Horse of the Year Show in a Ridden Hunter Class (not including Working Hunter Classes) will not be eligible to compete in novice classes from 1st January 2017.

There will be a change of course between the Open, Restricted, Novice and Amateur classes. Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A Show Jumper or Advanced Event Horse as at 1st January 2017- is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter Classes. THE MAXIMUM TOTAL POINTS AVAILABLE IS 100- THIS IS MADE UP OF: JUMPING POINTS = MAX 40 POINTS. STYLE & PRESENCE WHILST JUMPING = MAX 20 POINTS. RIDE = MAX 20 POINTS. CONFORMATION= 20 POINTS. Horses with minus scores may not be required for the second phase of the class at the discretion of the judge. Under no circumstances should a horse with a minus score be in a qualifying position. Fences to be a minimum of eight and a maximum of twelve in number. Maximum height 3'9" -1.14 mtrs (Novice class- min height 2’9” -0.85mtrs max 3’3”;1.00mtr Amateur and Restricted classes- max height 3’6” 1.07 mtrs) at the discretion of the judges. There must be a change of course between Novice, Restricted Open and Open Working Hunter classes. Working Hunters may compete ‘hors concours’ in novice and restricted working hunter classes in the jumping phase only at the discretion of the show secretary but the horse cannot compete in any other working hunter classes for the duration of that show. All obstacles are numbered. Fences should have a natural presence and not be easily dislodged. The manner of going to be taken into account. No change of rider or tack will be allowed (unless a horse is ridden side saddle, in which cases in order to allow the judge to ride, the saddle may be changed for the riding phase only). No hind boots or bandages of any description are allowed in the collecting ring, warm up or in the actual class. On completion of the jumping phase ALL CLEAR ROUNDS and any other horses the judges may require, should be asked to return to the ring. If a horse positively stops or turns its quarters to a fence or has a complete turnaround, these constitute refusals. If a horse jumps the incorrect fence out of a pen or lane it will be eliminated. Horses displaying continued disobedience or horses leaving the ring whether mounted or dismounted will be eliminated. In the event of a horse falling during a class that horse will be asked to leave the ring and will not be allowed to compete further in that class. Exhibitors will be allowed to compete two horses in a Working Hunter Class but following the jumping phase it will be up to the exhibitor to select ONLY ONE horse to take forward into the ridden and conformation section if required. Working Hunter courses are not to be walked by competitors until the judge has given permission. Whenever possible shows should announce the marks as they are awarded throughout the class. Competitors MUST wear a skull cap or hat and safety harness, according to the current BSI or European standard at all times in the Jumping phase of class 23 - 27. Skull caps must have a navy blue or black cover.

HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW CUDDY WORKING HUNTER 9 QUALIFIER CLASS

Class 23: Cuddy Working Hunter of the Year, This competition is for Working Hunters, any weight, mare, gelding or stallion (Competing stallions must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed in their tail) 4 years and over, exceeding 148cm, to be ridden. Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A Show Jumper or Advanced Event Horse as at 1st January in the current year is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter classes. All Riders, Owners and Producers must be Members of the British Show Horse Association. Horses must be registered with the British Show Horse Association. Entry Fee: £48

Fences will not exceed 1.14m (3ft 9ins) in height, there should be a minimum of 8 fences and a maximum of 12 fences. The course must contain a combination and should contain a water tray. This class will be judged in two parts. Part One (Jumping) will be judged first, without a jump-off. All clear rounds and any other horses the judges may require will go forward to the next part. A rider can ride up to two horses in the jumping phase but then must select only one horse to take forward into the ride and conformation section if so required (no change of rider is allowed). Marks must be awarded in the following way: PHASE I (60 MARKS) A: JUMPING POINTS 40 MARKS B: STYLE WHILE JUMPING 20 MARKS PHASE II (40 MARKS) C: CONFORMATION 20 MARKS D: RIDE 20 MARKS In the event of equality the CONFORMATION MARK from Phase II will take precedence, followed by the RIDE MARK, and then the STYLE MARK.

This class is a qualifier for The SEIB Working Show Horse Final, to be held at the BSHA National Championship Show. The two highest placed horses in the top five, not already qualified in each Open Working Show Horse Class, will qualify for the Final; no Horse placed lower than fifth will qualify. Entries can be made on a BSHA Day Ticket. THE RoR/TBA RETRAINED RACEHORSE CHALLENGE SHOW SERIES 2017

Class 29: The RoR/TBA Retrained Racehorse Challenge mare or gelding 4 years and over and of any height. Riders must be 15 years or over on 1st January. Horses to be ridden in any suitable bridle and should be plaited. The first three to qualify for the final at RoR National Show at Aintree in August 2017. All entries must be registered with RoR and HAVE raced in GB. Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorse Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.

The class to be judged 50% jumping 20% Style while jumping and performance and 30% awarded for show, manners and suitability to be retrained. PHASE 1- Jumping to be judged: 8 rustic jumps (2’ 6’’ – 3’ with a maximum spread of 85cms). The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round: 10 points to be deducted for a knock 11 down. 15 points to be deducted for a refusal. 20 points for a second refusal. Elimination for third refusal or fall. PHASE 2 – Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes, at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without leaving the ring. This is often a case with a large number in the class). Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than one and a half minutes. Show to include the following movements: Walk, Trot, Canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop), halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 30% for Show, manners and suitability to be retrained. Fences for the final at Royal Windsor can be up to a maximum of 3’6’’.

Prizes: Rosettes 1st to 6th place and Vouchers 1st to 4th place. 1st £50 plus voucher for jacket, 2nd £25, 3rd £20, 4th £10. Veteran prize (15+): £25 voucher to be redeemed from RoR office and qualification for the Veteran final at Aintree.

The RoR Jockey Club Novice Show Series Qualifier 2017

Class 30: The RoR Jockey Club Novice Ridden Show Horse Class Thoroughbred mare or gelding 4 years and over any height. Rider must be 15 years or over on 1st January. To take part in this class, the horse must NOT have won an open class (inc SEIB/HOYS, RoR Tattersalls Show Series Qualifier, TARRA, or any other open class except RoR TBA Challenge Show Series classes)). Horses will be de-noviced after 3 wins or any open win, but is still eligible to compete at the RoR Aintree show that August. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle. Horses should be plaited. The first three go forward to the championship at Aintree National Showing Show August 2017. All entries MUST be registered with the RoR and have RACED in GB. The class will be run under the rules of RoR. Horses will NOT be ridden by the judge; each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than one and a half minutes to include the following movements: Walk, Trot, Canter showing change of leg, extended canter, halt and stand, walk off on long rein. Horses will be stripped for conformation. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force. Please be aware that the show will split the class on the horse’s last run in a race (NH or Flat) should the entries exceed 20. Please mark your entry form accordingly. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. Racing injuries and blemishes are NOT ignored in this series. Class 31: The RoR Amateur Ridden Show Horse Class Open to all RoR and NH registered horses, mare or gelding 4 years and over, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. This series is open to AMATEURS only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. The class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without type being taken into consideration. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored. The judge will not ride at the qualifier but will ride in the Final. The class is a qualifier for the RoR AMATEUR Ridden Show Series Final at the RoR National Championship Show at Aintree, August 2017. The first three horses will qualify. Prizes: Rosettes 1st to 6th place. 1st £40 plus RoR jacket, 2nd £30, 3rd £20, 4th £10. Veteran prize (15+): £25 voucher to be redeemed from RoR office and qualification for the Veteran final at Aintree.

AMATEUR STATUS: An amateur is a person who for purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season: Engage (d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses (for the show ring) in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer’s/Trainers yard. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer. Horses and riders must not have received any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW. Horses must not have been ridden at a show by a rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.
