Counselors Corner: November’s character education trait is Citizenship, showing character and conduct that is a credit to self, school and community. Items collected for the Student Council Food Drive will be donated to the Higginsville Food Pantry. The last day to bring food items in is Tuesday the 24th so please bring what you can. 8 th Grade Science: We will be taking our first science acuity tests on Monday and Tuesday. We will continue with our unit on the Laws of Motion by working with Newton’s First, Second, and Third Laws of Motion. Topics included will be Balanced and Unbalanced Forces, Net Force, Inertia, Acceleration and Momentum. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. 8th Grade Social Studies: We will be creating our own school constitution in groups. This is meant to show the students how difficult the Constitutional Convention would have been. The students have to work together, following a set of guidelines, to come up with their own constitutions for our school. Debate, voting, and conflict resolution are all a part of this activity. This will take us to Thanksgiving break. Mr. Herron [email protected]

Pre-Algebra: We have completed the unit on exponents and roots. The test will be on 11/23 (G1) and 11/24 (B2 and B4). The next unit will be on rates, ratios, and proportions. Students will take the Acuity Predictive B test on December 3 and December 4.

Algebra 1: We will continue the unit on functions for the next two weeks. Students will be able to extend an arithmetic sequence and use a trend line to make predictions on scatter plots. There will be a quiz over functions on Monday, November 23. 8 th Health and Physical Education: Physical Education & Health: Mr. Dudley's class will start their volleyball unit and Mrs. Briney's class will start their handball unit. Power and Construction : This week the 8th graders finished plans for our upcoming project. We have now started on our shop project…dog houses. Some are still looking for financial support. 8th Grade-Exploring Agriculture: This week we will continue Unit 4: Agricultural Mechanics. Students will develop basic shop skills ranging from reading a measuring tape to safely operating various tools. We will wrap-up safety tests by December 1 and begin project construction. The project associated with this unit is a blue bird house. The lab fee for this activity is $6. Please send payment as soon as possible. My plan times are Gold 5 and Blue 4. 8 th Grade Band: Please mark your calendars for our first concert which will be held on December 14th at 7:00 pm. While the concert will begin at 7:00pm, we will ask that they arrive by 6:30pm to prepare for the concert. Students will need a nice pair of black shoes, black dress pants, and their blue music shirt. The music shirt order that was placed this year will be distributed to students in class the week of the concert. If you need help obtaining any of these items, please do not hesitate to contact me. Vocal Music: Vocal students are preparing for the Winter Concert. This concert will be held on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Gym. Students should wear blue music shirts, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Students will meet in the gym that evening at 6:45. [email protected]

8th Grade RISE: Students know their final presentation dates for their independent study projects and Scratch projects and are working towards finalizing them for their presentations in December. 8th Grade Art: The students in this class will complete their people portrait project. These will be wrapped in cellophane and prepared for display in the halls. Once this is complete they will type artist statements to be displayed with their work. Their next project will be a 3D alphabet letter.

Graphics I: The students in graphics class will continue presenting their multimedia presentations to their peers. The class will all participate in viewing and class discussions about each presentation as each student completes their presentation.

Graphics II: The students in graphics class will continue presenting their multimedia presentations about Graphic Design to their peers. The class will all participate in viewing and class discussions about each presentation as each student completes their presentation.

8 th Grade CA/Reading: Mrs. Lettau - This will be a short week with Thanksgiving break, but the lessons for the following week are included. We will write a Thanksgiving essay, complete a compare and contrast, and work on editing. 8 th Grade Communication Arts : Spelling: Gold classes will receive a packet on Monday, due Wednesday, and test on Friday. Reading: Test over The Tell-Tale Heart Monday/Tuesday then E.A. Poe’s Pit and the Pendulum. Grammar: Verbs Writing project: Gold 4 student’s quarterly project over a current A.R. book is due by December 11. A.R.: Students must meet 100% of their A.R. goal by Thursday, December 17.
