Deering Police Department Deering, NH 03244

MONTHLY REPORT AUGUST 2011

NEWS: 1. Amy Collins has started her “Law Package” certification process, and is taking classes 2 evenings a week through late October. 2. PD responded to several road hazard/tree down type problems during Hurricane Irene, which thankfully spared the residents of Deering any highly significant damages. 3. We have taken ANOTHER report of a young female who was coerced into making nude/sexual videos of herself and sending these out to an unknown sexual predator. Once again we are working with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to investigate this. 4. Police Cadet Post #612 Members assisted with Traffic and Safety for the Annual “Fat Tire Association” Mountain Bike Race.

TRAINING: 1. Officer Collins continues in Field Training, though as reduced time as she is doing Academy classes. 2. PD Training in Preliminary Breath Test Instruments. 3. PD and member of Police Cadet Post #612 required Annual Training on OC (Pepper) Spray. 4. Chief Pushee attended a training session on the Federal “1033” Program to learn the basics of requisitioning military surplus equipment.

GRANTS: 1. Highway Safety Agency Grants: SPEED ENFORCEMENT: we have concluded this grant program and will be preparing statistical reports and the request for reimbursement this week. 2. Highway Safety Agency Grants: DWI ENFORCEMENT: we continue to work these 5 hour dedicated DWI Enforcement patrols under this grant program, which will expire in mid-September. 3. Highway Safety Agency Grants: Statewide DWI HUNTER Weekends: we have concluded this grant program and have already prepared statistical reports and sent a request for reimbursement. 4. Highway Safety Agency Grants: OPERATION SAFE COMMUTE: NH Highway Safety has started a new multi-agency specialized enforcement grant program to assist with traffic safety during commuter periods. Deering PD has been added to the list of agencies approved for this program, which will pay overtime costs to put an additional officer/cruiser on the road during specific commuter times one (1) day each month, from October 2011-Sept 2012.

JUVENILE ACTIVITY: 1. We had no Diversionable Juvenile Cases in August 2011** a. My understanding is that we’ve had a couple “walk-offs” from the Alternative School that were handled by the SRO, Ofc. Rory Bohanan. b. We had one Protective Custody “arrest” of a Juvenile, but no actual criminal charges forthcoming out of it.
