Dear 6th Grade Parent/Guardians,

Hyattsville Middle School is anxious to have your child apply and audition for the Hyattsville Middle School Creative & Performing Arts Program. If your child does not have a copy of the complete application, go to the Hyattsville MS web page at www.pgcps.org/~hyattsms or to the Prince George's County Public Schools web page at www.pgcps.org .You may also contact Hyattsville MS or your child’s school guidance counselor for a paper copy if needed. The application deadline is March 12, 2011 - the auditions will take place the week of April 11-16. Hyattsville MS must receive a completed application to schedule your child for an audition. Your child may audition for only one of any of the following programs:

 DANCE -The dance program offers training and performance in various dance genres such as ballet, modern, jazz and ethnic, but is not limited to just one.  MUSIC – For students that play an instrument or sing, the Band, Chorus, or Orchestra programs teaches music skills and performs in small and large ensembles, participating in music festivals and concert performances.  DRAMA - The Drama department offers students a wide variety of performance opportunities in plays and in theater production and writing.  VISUAL ART - The visual arts program is for students with above average skills in art. Students will be exposed to and produce art forms such as drawing, printmaking, collage, ceramics and sculpture.  MEDIA PRODUCTION – Students get experience in television & media production. Students learn to operate studio equipment and gain knowledge, experience and skills in producing, directing, technical directing, and script writing, editing and acting for the camera. Projects are often shared with the school community.  CREATIVE WRITING - The creative writing program provides students with opportunities to express themselves through speaking and writing. Students examine famous literary works in the area of drama, poetry, and short stories. In addition, information about the HMS tour dates and the March 22nd Sixth Grade Night are on the school website. Call HMS and ask for Mr. Cutler at 301-209-5841 to schedule a tour or if you have any questions.
