Algebra II Syllabus 2015-2016

Teacher: Mrs. Saundra Hale E-mail: [email protected] Plan: 4rd Period (10:45-11:35 am)

Course Description This is the second half of a two-year sequence of algebra. The curriculum integrates algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics topics. Topics include but are not limited to: linear relations and functions, systems of equations and inequalities, matrices, polynomials, quadratic functions, conic sections, rational expressions and equations, exponential and logarithmic relations, sequences and series, probability and statistics, trigonometric functions and graphs.

Course Requirements and Expectations 1. All students must be prepared for class each day with a textbook, writing utensil, paper, and binder (see #2 below for details). 2. Each student must keep a math binder (11/2 to 2 inch binder recommended) that will include notes on material covered in class and homework assignments, in chronological order. This entire notebook will be collected for a grade at the end of the year. 3. We will utilize a TI-83 or TI-84 calculator in class on specific days. If you own one of these calculators you may use it; if not, the school will provide one. 4. Late work will NOT be accepted. All assignments, including homework, are to be turned in on time and work must be shown. Students should expect homework almost every night. 5. Cell phones, music devices, I-Pads, laptops, and other technology will only be used for instructional purposes with the permission of the teacher. 6. Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom. 7. Book bags must fit under the student’s desk. 8. Because we have so many breaks if a student goes to the restroom during class, they will make up the time during break that day or the next.

Absence / Make-up Work Policy 1. Students are responsible for getting assignments after an absence. 2. The missed assignments are due within 2 days for each date missed. If the work is not turned in, the student will be required to complete the assignment in Academic ISAP. 3. Students are responsible for making an appointment to make up any missed quiz or test due to an excused absence. This appointment must be completed within one week following the absence, either before or after school. 4. If a student is absent and they make up the work they will not receive a number grade for this, but an asterisk (*), which will not negatively affect their grade.

Grading Policy The course will maintain the following grading percentages: 30% - Assignments 30% - Quizzes 40% - Tests

TUTORING Students may receive homework/test prep help from 7:15-7:55AM Monday through Friday and from 2:50-3:30PM Monday through Thursday.

Parent Portal Students can check their grades on Infinite Campus Parent Portal, which can be accessed through our school website.

End of Course Assessment The state of Kentucky now requires an end of course assessment for Algebra II. This assessment will consist of topics covered in this course and will be 18 percent of the student’s overall grade. It is very important that students do well on this exam. Please be assured that I am here to assist in any way possible in order for each student to be successful in this class and on this assessment.
