Employment History

Richland Technologies - Senior Mechanical Engineer (01/11-present) Senior mechanical engineer and project manager for FLIR sensor and processor package for dual application on the Gulfstream Falcon and other platforms. This cross platform application had challenging environmental specifications. Duties included development of weight control plan, qualification test procedure, mechanical ICD, thermal management strategies, structural analysis and participation in cross disciplinary meetings. All work complied with RSTA and DO-160G.

Synergy Parametrics. LLC- Senior Mechanical Engineer (03/03–01/11) Synergy Parametrics is a military design engineering firm that provided consulting services to the Air Force. Fully engineered designs were created using Solidworks to develop optical targeting systems related to the F- 15, F-16, Apache and Cobra helicopters. Once implemented, these systems aligned the primary guns and instrumentation of these platforms. A nightvision monocular and rifle mountable scope were also products designed through a subcontractor at Synergy. As Senior Engineer, I used Solidworks to create electronic packaging from concept through to fully engineered turnkey packages. Among the elements designed by me were EM sealed enclosures, plastic extrusion molding, blowmolding, stampings, bracket design, fixture design, wire harness layouts, optical systems design, aluminum extrusion design, assemblies and hardware/vendor research and selection. I was one of the original beta testers for Solidworks and have used the design package since it was first created in 1995. My time on the software exceeds 10,000 hours.

Diagnostic Military Systems, Oakland NJ – Mechanical Engineer 5/95-1/2001 Provided engineering support for the projects listed below. Duties included: dealing with vendor component selection, design/structural outfitting of E/M sealed cabinets, ruggedized equipment and integration of optoelectronic and electronic components into the mechanical structure. Skills in sheet metal layout of brackets, panels and framework using Autocad version 13 were employed. Complete design packages using Solidworks were created and shipped to the Air Force. Maintenance and upgrade of parts and design books, projects plans and resource management were additional skills used in this project. Thermal & Structural analysis using Cosmos FEA, Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing were skills utilized in these designs.

Radio Systems Corporation, Knoxville TN – Mechanical Engineer 01/02-03/03 Designed two new products. The first was a prototype patio panel which was half the weight of comparable panels. New design ideas reduced breakage and shipping cost and replaced 4 product SKU’s. Designed a patent pending sliding riser and customizable sizes from 72” to 96” enabling Radio Systems to provide a product that could be used in any sliding glass door in the world. A second prototype was a unique design that provided deadbolt security and 4 way access in a low cost, low piece count configuration. Additional contributions included research and evaluation of damage due to faulty shipping methods. Proposals were adopted by the company and resulted in considerable saving due in recovered product. Lead a team in efforts to bring concepts through to manufacturing utilizing the design of plastic injection molding, blowmolding, plastic extrusion molding, sheet metal stampings and enclosures. Examples of products that were brought to market are linked below:

Koch Membrane, Wilmington MA – Mechanical Designer 03/99 – 01/02 Developed and streamlined company design methods by writing specifications for the use of Solidworks, teaching classes in parametric design and performing system administration work to create libraries and project folders. Designed water filtrations systems and piping assemblies per customer request. Scope of work included component selection from engineering specifications, development of Solidworks and Autocad parts, assemblies and drawings, input and management of project folders and ERP system.

Breeze Manufacturing Company, Sarasota, Florida – Design Manager 9/93-4/95 Managed computer design facilities and established drafting standards and systems for smooth operation between engineering, design and model builders. Created non uniform 3d surfaces of the BREEZE electric motorcycle chassis, seat, lenses, and side panels. These were created from design sketches and carved using CNC machines. Created solid model casting plugs of the patented planetary transmission for the BREEZE. These plugs were carved using solids model data. This surfacing and solids modeling technology allowed the production of prototype parts in very short time.

Reliance Electric, Athens Georgia – Mechanical Designer 9/91-8/93 Developed solids and surface models of industrial electric motor controllers. Produced layouts for new concept designs. Verified compliance of previous designs to floor procedures and updated previous designs to reflect customer needs.
