SYLLABUS for MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST (MOS) COURSE

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) is the credential required by academia and business, recognized globally as the premier credential chosen by individuals seeking to validate their knowledge, skills and abilities relating to the Microsoft Office applications.

This learning program offers students an opportunity to pursue IT curricula through instructor-led training and hands-on laboratory exercises. As a result, students can apply classroom learning to actual technology challenges, which ultimately prepares today’s students and tomorrow's workforce for life-long learning opportunities.

 Academic Leverage and Skill Building In school, students studying MOS courseware prepare for classroom testing and certification exams helping them to acquire a portfolio of skills and credentials respected by colleges and the professional world. The course of study prepares students for an increasingly competitive workplace market.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Microsoft Office Specialist Program enables candidates to learn and show that they have something exceptional to offer – proven expertise in specific Microsoft programs. The Microsoft Office Specialist Program is the only Microsoft-approved certification program of its kind. COURSE CONTENT: During the course of study, students will learn and test in the following software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. The course is instructor led and involves presentations, class discussion, note taking, homework, formal testing and other assessments, and lab assignments. NOTEBOOKS: A notebook separate from other courses is required for daily notes, journals and labs. This notebook must have a sleeve for handouts, tests and returned work.

GRADING: Assessment: tests, quizzes, notebook, projects 70% Participation 20% Homework 10%

LAB FACILITIES: This completely equipped lab complies with all the requirements of CERTIPORT’s MOS specifications.

TESTS and QUIZES: There are tests and quizzes given during each marking period reflecting the material studied in class.

Makeup exams for missed tests will be given only upon the presentation of valid absence notes from home or a doctor’s office.

LATE WORK: Late assignments will result in reduced assignment grades. Students are responsible for getting and making up any missed class work and assignments. Refer to the class website to see class assignments, when they were assigned and when they are due.

REQUIREMENTS: Students must be prepared for daily class with pen or pencil; a notebook for notes, journals, labs, and examinations; and a flash drive to record and transport student work.

ATTENDANCE: In accordance with the Chancellor’s Regulation, students must maintain a minimum attendance of 90%.

CERTIFICATION: At the satisfactory completion of each section and passing the required exams, students receive National Certificate from CERTIPORT Inc.
