CLARIFICATIONS ON CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION 1. The committee will not delineate between the various categories of all-scholastic, all-county, all-area, all-league, etc. 2. Participation in Keystone Summer Games means those players that made the junior and scholastic region teams through a tryout. On the list, the Keystone Games signifies the summer games immediately before your season. You are required to list the team the player played on. 3. National Festival Pool Champion signifies the 2007 festival since the nomination forms are handed in before the 2008 festival. 4. Please make sure you are honest about your players selections to National teams, JO’s, ODS, FDIC, EPTC etc. The committee checks to make sure the information given is accurate. 5. If you do not list the futures site, we will not count include it in the criteria count. 6. District and state recognition signifies PIAA competitions. This is not meant for club or travel teams. Only state or District PIAA competitions count. 7. Please make sure your tally of criteria is correct.

ALL COACHES NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY FILL OUT THE NOMINATION FORMS. NO PARENTS OR PLAYERS SHOULD FILL OUT THESE FORMS. YOU AS A COACH ARE SIGNING YOUR NAME STATING THAT ALL INFORMATION IS CORRECT.

STAT-KEEPING SUGGESTIONS

Many coaches have expressed difficulty keeping accurate statistics for their players. We know that few programs have more than one varsity and one junior varsity coach. We have some suggestions that may help overcome your shortage of personnel.

1. First, identify at the beginning of the season those players on your team whose skill far surpasses all the others. (In most cases, you will have one, maybe two.) If you are unsure about a player, include her. Instead of having to keep stats for everyone you will only be keeping stats for the player(s) you have identified as gifted. 2. Ask a reliable adult (faithful fan, friend, or teacher) to attend all games and keep stats for that player. Use a special tally form to make it easier. 3. If you cannot find someone to help you with stats, or they miss a game or two, use videotapes of the games. It really is quite easy to go through the tape and tally the stats. Again, you may use someone else to watch the tape and tally the stats. This method may be more accurate than the live game since you can pause and replay over and over. 4. Because filling in the Individual Field Player stat sheet is so time consuming keep individual stats on another piece of paper and keep the opponent played, win or loss and the score after each game. At the end of the regular season, copy the filled in stat sheet and fill in the individual information and comments for each player.

STATEMENT ON NOMINATION OF ATHLETES FOR ALL-STATE

The PHSFHCA membership has been concerned that in recent years there has been a deterioration of good sportsmanship at all levels of field hockey. In keeping with the saying “actions speak louder than words”, the all-state selection committee is requesting that no athlete be nominated for all state if the athlete received a “red” card or numerous “yellow” cards during their high school season. The committee feels it is the coaches responsibility to tell their athletes during preseason that they (the coach) will not nominate an athlete that does not show good sportsmanship at all times. The coach should make it clear that any athlete receiving a red card will not be nominated for all-state recognition.

The all-state selection committee will contact the PIAA and request a list of schools that had field hockey players receive red cards during the course of the season. The committee will be in contact with the head coach to discuss the circumstances involved.

The selection committee is asking that all coaches respect their request. If there are any questions please direct them to the all-state selection committee.
