RACE TO THE SKY MEDIA RELEASE #6 – More Finishers

Doog White, from Snowmass Village, Colorado and rookie musher finished Race to the Sky 300 at 1:57 this afternoon with 11 dogs. Under rain, sleet and warm temperatures, Mark Stamm finished his 300 mile race at 4:40 this afternoon with 7 dogs. Josi Thyr of Cataldo, Idaho, finished with 12 dogs at 5:40 p.m. Monday.

Next expected into Hi-Country Snack Foods checkpoint near Lincoln will be Jennifer Campeau of Mountain House, Alberta, Canada and Bryce Mumford of Preston, Idaho. Campeau left Seeley Lake at 7:38 a.m. and lost her team several miles from Seeley Lake. She retrieved her team with the help of officials and continued to the finish. No dogs were injured which is the biggest worry when a team loses its musher.

Jessie Royer of Darby, Montana won the 300 mile Race to the Sky at 8:39 with 11 dogs this morning. Brett Bruggeman of Great Falls, Montana, finished 4 minutes behind her at 8:43 with 10 dogs.

Royer’s win today makes her the first three time champion of Race to the Sky. Royer set out to use this as a training run for Iditarod next month. This is one of the closest finishes for the 300 mile race in many years.

Everyone is invited to the 300 mile awards ceremony on Tuesday night at St Paul’s United Methodist Church, 512 Logan Street. Gourmet spaghetti will be served for $5 per person and kids eat free. There will be a live auction for a Lakota quilt, a movie poster from “Always Faithful”, a scrimshaw art piece, the 2016 original artwork and more. There will be trail stories, “musher” talk and they love to share their tales with everyone. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
