Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systems approach establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Brentwood School is in our second year using the PBIS system. Brentwood learners have participated in two school-wide celebrations so far this year. In September, Elk Grove High School students came and led us through a Pep Rally. In October, our celebrations were the Halloween parties and parade. In November, we are looking forward to the Wheel of Wisdom assembly (sponsored by funds from the PTO) on Tuesday, November 24th.

Our school wide behavior expectations are:

Recently, our bathrooms have not been as clean as we expect. Please review the bathroom expectations with your child(ren) at home.

November Health Office News

Health Updates A child’s health needs can change from year to year. If your child’s health needs have changed recently, please let the health office know so we can keep your child safe at school. This is very important, especially if your doctor has determined that your child now has allergies or needs medication at school. The physical exam record from Kindergarten may be the only health document for a 5th grade student. Please call the health office at (847) 472-3445 with any updates.

Medication at School If medication is needed at school, form H25 needs to be completed by both the parent and the child’s doctor. Even over the counter medication such as cough drops or Tylenol needs to have a physician’s order. Medication must be brought to school by the parent in its original container labeled with the child’s name. A child is not allowed to transport medication unless it is an inhaler or EpiPen that the doctor has deemed necessary for him or her to self-carry at school. Form H26 will need to be completed in this case. Forms are available at the health office or on the district website.

Illnesses at Home Please notify the health office if you child has a communicable disease such as strep throat or chicken pox. Notification letters will be sent home to provide other parents with signs and symptoms so they can monitor their children. To prevent the spread of illness you should keep your child home for one or more of the following symptoms:

 Fever of 100.0 or greater. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medications before they can return to school.  Nausea or vomiting. Please keep your child home from school if they vomit during the night. They need to be able to tolerate food and have no re-occurring vomiting for 24 hours.  Skin rash or sores  Inflamed, swollen or reddened eyes  Excessive coughing or sneezing  Diarrhea  Sore throat  Headache/earache

Vision and Hearing Screenings at Brentwood Brentwood School is conducting vision and hearing screenings on Tuesday, November 3rd. Parents will be notified later this month if they need to have their child follow up with their pediatrician or an ophthalmologist.

If you have any questions feel free to contact the health office at (847) 472-3445.
