As you walk home one evening, you hear a horrible sound coming from the house that your parents always told you to stay away from. You begin to walk towards it and suddenly you see something in the front window looking right at you. Quickly you run back home, but the image cannot be erased, and neither can the sound you heard. You know you must solve this mystery one way or another.

I couldn’t just let this one go…not this time. I had to figure out what was going on with that place, but I couldn’t do it alone. I swung my legs on my bike and began to peddle, slowly at first then soon I was at full speed heading toward my best friend Roxanne’s house. I pushed my bicycle up the gravel driveway and parked it with a stubby rock I found lying on the ground. I walked up to the oak wood door on Roxanne’s house and rung the gold-painted doorbell on the right side of the door. I waited a few seconds until finally Roxanne’s mother, Teresa, could be seen through the solid glass window and greeted me with a loving smile. “Why hello there, are you here to see Roxanne?” she said still smiling. I mumbled “Yes. She said “Ok I will go and get her.”

I saw Roxanne’s mother go up to Roxanne’s room. Roxanne came out to greet me. “Hi Cody!” She came out from the door and stood on her stone porch. “Hi Roxanne” I mumbled. She asked me “What’s wrong Cody?” “I saw something…..You know the house my mom tells me not to go in right?” “Yea what about it?” Roxanne asked. “Well I went by the house and I heard a terrible scream! It was like a girl or something….I can’t get it out of my mind” I said.

“Can you come with me to the house” I asked. “Sure Cody….But that place kind of shakes me up a bit.” “Ok Roxanne just please come with me I can’t do it alone!” “Cody you don’t understand, I go by there a lot and I hear screams too, but you don’t see me walking up to the house messing with their stuff do ya?” “Sorry Roxanne I thought you would help me” I said. I put on a little grin and said “p-p-p-pleaseeee?” “Ok!” said Roxanne, “when do you want to go?”

“Right now…”

We walked up to the front door and we opened it. Total darkness was all around so we took out a flash light…gross! There was slime and dust everywhere. We saw a door creak open but it was just a cat. “Almost everything is broken” Roxanne said to me. I thought we were being watched and then I heard footsteps. “They sound like they are very close.” I said. “Should we go upstairs?” Roxanne asked. “I guess...” “It looks scary” said Roxanne. We went up stairs. We were scared but brave. When we went up there we saw a ghost! We ran down the stairs as fast as we possibly could. We screamed all the way OUT the door and never looked back.
