College of Environmental Design Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) Appointment Form Instructions: Academic Departments: After completing this form, please route it to your departmental administrative manager (Joyce Jennings, Malla Hadley or Sue Retta), who will confirm funding availability, chartstring assignment and approve the proposed recruitment/appointment. Once your administrative manager has approved the recruitment/request to hire, she will route this form to the CED Human Resources and Payroll group who will post the position and/or process the appointment. The CED HR/Payroll mail bin is located on top of the mailboxes in the 230 Wurster Hall.
Administrative Groups (Archives, External Relations, Finance, IT, Shops, Undergraduate Affairs, etc.): After completing this form, please work with Eric Gillet to confirm funding availability and chartstring assignment. Once a chartstring has been assigned, you must get Assistant Dean Jan Miller’s signature of approval for the proposed recruitment/appointment. HR/Payroll Date Received Stamp: Information About Fee Remission For Academic Student Employee (ASE) appointments (GSI, AI-GS, Reader or Tutor appointments) to receive a fee remission, the student needs to have an appointment, or multiple appointments, totaling 25% time or more (170 potential hours*) during the semester (not counting holidays or weekends). Appointments that on their own would not generate fee remission can be combined to create a fee remission if the combination of appointments totals 25% time or more during a semester. This can be any combination of ASE appointments (GSI, AI-GS, Reader or Tutor), or any ASE appointment in combination with a GSR appointment.
*170 Hour Rule per UC UAW Contract This is in accordance with Article 11 of the UC-UAW contract and the February 2002 Labor Relations memo on late Academic Student Employee (ASE) appointments (GSIs, AI-GSs, Readers, and Tutors), any ASE appointment, combination of ASE appointments, or combination of ASE appointment(s) and GSR appointment(s) that equal 170 hours can generate a partial fee remission, irrespective of appointment dates and percentages, and including combinations of eligible title codes.
TYPES OF FEES REMISSIONS FEES PAID BY REMISSION Partial Fee Remission for Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs), Readers, and Tutors Student Services Fee working 25% or more time, and Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) working 25–44% Educational Fee time. Health Insurance Fee * Student Services Fee Educational Fee Full Fee Remission for GSRs working at least 45% time. Health Insurance Fee * Berkeley Campus Fee Class Pass (AC Transit) Fee Full Fee and Nonresident Tuition Remissions for GSRs working at least 45% time. Student Services Fee Note: Only for non-California residents who are: a) pursuing the Ph.D. or professional Educational Fee doctorate (as defined by the student’s department) as the terminal degree; b) within the Health Insurance Fee * departmentally-established normative time period; and c) not receiving any other Berkeley Campus Fee support that funds nonresident tuition. U.S. citizens and permanent residents classified Class Pass (AC Transit) Fee as non-California residents are eligible only for their first year of graduate study at Nonresident Tuition Fee Berkeley. * Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) premiums are automatically remitted as part of the fee remission program unless you have a waiver of health insurance coverage on record at the University Health Services. If a student has a SHIP waiver, then fee remission amounts will be reduced by the amount of the insurance fee. Undergraduate GSI appointees may be eligible for Educational and Student Services fee remissions only.
