Grading Scale

A=90-100 B=80-89 C=70-79 D=60-69 F=0-59

Grading Policy MPS grading policy-65% of a subject’s grade will be determined by major assessments and 35% of the grade will come from homework and class work.

Make Up Work Procedures Students will be given an opportunity to make up missed assignments due to illness or an excused absence. Students will not be allowed to make up missed assignments due to suspensions or unexcused absences. Work that will be assigned a grade like daily grades and tests must be done at school. Homework and class work can be done at home. Students are expected to make up tests as soon as possible. Tests and daily grades should be made up within 3 days upon their return to school.

Tutoring Students will be tutored during intervention time in reading and math. Tutoring will also be scheduled, a couple days a week, (Monday-Thursday) with a tutor if deemed necessary.

Communication Communication with parents will be through the office (334-260-1015) to set up a conference or visitation with the teacher. You may send a note by your child indicating you would like to set up a conference or anything else you may have concerns about.

Materials For all subjects students will need paper, pencils, folder and textbook daily. Students will be informed ahead of time if any other materials are needed.

General Outline of Topics

Math 1st nine weeks place value, rounding, estimating, addition with regrouping, subtracting 2, 3, digits and across zeroes, counting equal groups, multiplication

2nd nine weeks multiplication, division, fractions

3rd nine weeks recognize data as numerical or catagorical, number patterns,numeric/geometric patterns, points, lines, angles, metric length, elapsed time, probability

4th nine weeks measurement-liquid/volume/mass, perimeter, polygons

Getting Ready for 4th Grade-numbers to ten thousand, multiplication of 11 & 12, division of 11 & 12, comparing numbers

Reading

1st nine weeks comprehension skills-realism/fantasy, sequence, character/ setting, main idea, graphic organizer vocabulary strategies-context clues, word structures, glossary/ dictionary

2nd nine weeks comprehension skills-main ideas/details, author’s purpose, draw conclusions, cause & effect, generalize vocabulary strategies-glossary/dictionary, context clues, word structure

3rd nine weeks comprehension skills-compare & contrast, fact & opinion, plot & theme, sequence vocabulary strategies-context clues, word structures

4th nine weeks comprehension skills-cause & effect, compare & contrast, main idea, author’s purpose, fact and opinion vocabulary strategies-word structures, context clues, glossary Grammar 1st nine weeks sentences, subjects & predicates, statements & questions, commands & exclamations, compound sentences, common & proper nouns, singular & plural nouns

2nd nine weeks irregular plural nouns, singular possessive nouns, plural possessive nouns, action and linking verbs, main and helping verbs, subject-verb agreement, present, past and future tenses, irregular verbs

3rd nine weeks singular & plural nouns, subject and object pronouns, possessive nouns, contractions, prepositions, adjectives and articles

4th nine weeks adverbs that compare, conjunctions, capital letters, abbreviations, combining sentences

Science 1st nine weeks life cycle of plants, habitats, structures & functions of the muscular & skeletal systems

2nd nine weeks habitats, weather, layers of the Earth and natural resources

3rd nine weeks physical & chemical changes, force and motion, forms of energy

4th nine weeks Earth & space, sound

Social Studies 1st nine weeks Map skills- map, chart, and graph reading Distinguish between continents, countries, states, and cities
