AC variable speed drives are used in their tens of thousands in industrial applications, but the very breadth of their application range has (in the past) often created problems; as different types of drives were best suited to different applications.
To address this issue, and to make life easier for machine builders and system integrators, Danfoss has developed the Danfoss VLT® Midi Drive FC 280. This covers an enormous range of applications without the need for costly and space-occupying add-ons and extras.
The Danfoss VLT® Midi Drive FC 280 AC variable speed drive breaks new ground by providing in a single compact and cost-effective unit, all of the components and functionality needed to satisfy the requirements of an exceptionally wide range of applications; including packaging systems, pumps, fans, conveyor systems, compressors and mixers. Making it the ideal choice for OEM’s.
With all-pluggable connectors, this innovative drive is fast and easy to install and use; while its compact construction saves costly panel space.
For maximum economy, versatility and convenience; VLT® Midi Drives feature integrated DC chokes for harmonic mitigation, built-in RFI switches that allow them to operate without problems even on IT power circuits, integrated PID controllers, built-in brake choppers (three- phase models only) and dual-channel STO (safe torque off) safety functionality. No additional components are therefore needed – which means even more panel space savings – and there are no hidden extras to pay for.
Danfoss VLT® Midi Drives are available in single-phase versions for 200 to 240 V supplies with ratings from 0.37 to 2.2 kW, three-phase versions for 200 to 240 V with ratings from 0.37 to 3.7 kW, and three-phase versions from 380 to 480 V with ratings from 0.37 to 22 kW. This wide range of options, the ability to operate at up to 45 ºC without derating and international certification (approvals include CE, UL listed, cUL, EAC and TÜV) mean that the drives can be used in equipment destined for every part of the world.
Another innovative and increasingly important feature of the new Danfoss VLT® Midi Drives is that all models are suitable for use not only with standard induction and asynchronous motors, but also with the latest high-efficiency permanent magnet motors. This compatibility results in freedom for the user to choose the best high-efficiency motor for their task and eliminates the need for users to buy different drives for different types of motors.
For configuring the drives, users can choose either a numerical or graphical local control panel. Both control panels provide access to an intuitive parameter set-up system that makes it easy to optimise performance and energy savings. In addition, targeted selections that simplify and speed set-up and commissioning for a wide range of common applications are also provided.
The new Danfoss VLT® Midi Drives feature a USB port to allow easy connection of a PC during commissioning or for servicing. They also provide a wide range of fieldbus connectivity options including CANopen, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and Modbus; comprehensive communication options mean that the VLT® Midi Drives can be readily integrated with all types of industrial automation systems.
Danfoss is one of the world’s largest and most prominent developers and manufacturers of variable speed drives, a position it has held for many decades. The company’s products are invariably innovative, but their development is always guided by genuine market needs; which Danfoss carefully monitors through the close relationship it maintains with its customers. For these reasons, new Danfoss products receive an enthusiastic reception and carve out for themselves a substantial market share. Products in the Danfoss VLT® Midi Drive FC 280 range will undoubtedly follow this pattern and their viability, therefore, is assured.
