From the Desk of the Pastor Be reminded that the 20212022 Parish Share Program collection has begun. Parish Share is much dif- ferent than a onetime special collection: It is a commitment of making a regular extra gift over the entire year, using either the two envelopes in the packet, or your monthly bank draft, or your Faith Direct contribu- tion. Each donation makes a difference because all parishes participate in it, and the gifts of many enable the Diocese of Pittsburgh to provide needed ministries and services that parishes alone could not offer. These include promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life, Catholic education, and parish services. Recall too the incentive this year: the more we collect, the more that remains with us for our use here at St. Matthew. May God bless you for your generosity. Our Virtual Alpha series begins this Thursday. I you signed up! To be honest, I have personally made the commitment to participate each week. All of us can grow closer in our relationship to Jesus and His Church. This is a great way to do so and build community at the same time. Call Soucy at ext. 415 or use the registration form on our website. Perhaps a little report on my class, “Making Friends with the Fathers”, may help you as well. Saints Pol- ycarp of Smyrna and , living in the 1st and 2nd Centuries AD, were concerned about many things. The greatest of which was the unity of the Church. While there were lineages of Bishops “ordained” by Peter and Paul, both men reminded their communities of the oneness of the Church, much as there is One God in a of Persons. There was also a oneness in faith and the message. In oth- er words, there were to be no factions or cliques, no separate beliefs. Interesting. See why the Fathers speak to us today? Secondarily, dare I say it that way, was the centrality of the . and Ignatius both saw the great need for the Eucharist and were willing to offer their lives in service of it. In the of getting back to a somewhat normal world, be reminded that we have contracted with AC- CESS for those who can’t drive and wish to get to Mass, confession or any event at any of our four church- es. If you are interested, please contact Anna Trovato at extension 362. You will need to show proof of age, via a driver’s license or similar, which will be kept on file. The Knights of Columbus Art J. Rooney, Sr. Council #9984 has offered a grant to users of ACCESS. They have given ten $50.00 “vouchers” for parish- ioners who utilize this service. What this means is that there is no cost to the parishioner for this service, i.e., FREE! So, what a deal! Please, consider taking advantage of this opportunity. See you at the Eucharistic Table! Fr. Jim Gretz
