NYLESA Annual Work Plan 2012
The main objectives of NYLESA are to assist the spouses/partners of international civil servants to settle into New York and to support their employment and career interests. In addition, NYLESA aims to become a strong advocate in collaboration with UN System organizations in New York and to contribute to the development of global network of like-minded associations. The members of NYLESA are working towards these goals by implementing the following work plan.
Administrative (Chair, Co-chair, Treasurer) The new administrative volunteers continue to facilitate NYLESA's collaboration with the UN System organizations in New York to increase awareness of the needs and skills of UN spouses and partners. They are also continuing the assessment of the legalization of NYLESA in New York and the development of financial stability through appropriate sponsorships. Where possible they will identify information and opportunities that further NYLESA's mission. Additionally, they will build on and oversee NYLESA's accountability and evaluation to ensure effective use of resources.
Welcome Working Group (WWG) The Welcome Group will be in contact with new spouses and partners through monthly coffee gatherings and offer them support when they contact the association for the first time. The group will be in charge of keeping the membership list updated. It will also organize fundraising events at the UN organizations to make the UN staff aware of NYLESA’s existence. The Welcome Group continues to organize seminars and activities that help spouses to adapt to New York and understand its dynamics.
Career Support Working Group (CSWG) The Career Support Group continues to create channels at each UN organization in New York to procure UN job information for dissemination to UN spouses and partners. The Group will also promote the creation of pro-bono opportunities with organizations other than UNDP, where the programme is already launched. The Group volunteers will contribute to the Career Support section of NYLESA website, www.nylesa.org, by adding valuable information about career matters. The Group will also look for opportunities to organize activities and seminars to support spouses looking for career enhancement.
Communication Working Group (CWG) The Communication Group continues to keep all NYLESA interest groups aware of its presence and activities and offers them platforms to communicate with each other. As the communication tools are established the CWG will concentrate more on providing and delivering relevant information to support UN spouses and partners in New York and to promote on accurate image of NYLESA among its interest groups. The Communication Group also furthers the collaboration with all UN System organizations in New York to have NYLESA information readily available as part of their induction programs. In addition the Communication Group will actively participate in the development, promotion and use of Teamworks, the new knowledge sharing platform of UN Dual Career and Staff Mobility Programme.
