Dear Counselors/Community Partners:

The Greater Louisville Alliance of Black School Educators (GLABSE) is offering several scholarship opportunities for students who will graduate this spring. Over the last nineteen years, GLABSE has awarded scholarships totaling over $400,000.00 to deserving students. The 2015 GLABSE package includes scholarships in names of the following JCPS and University of Louisville personnel: Montest L. Eaves, Jr., Dr. Joseph Atkins, Diane Porter, and Dr. Bernard Hamilton.

In collaboration with our university partners, we are able to offer the Minority Educator Recruitment and Retention (MERR) scholarships to the following schools: Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University.

Students applying for the MERR scholarships must meet the university’s criteria for the scholarship and must plan to major in education. These applications will be forwarded to staff at the university selected by the student. Final determination of the award will be made by the university, not GLABSE. MERR scholarships are usually in the amount of $2,500.00 per semester and are renewable for up to four years, as long as the student continues to major in education and maintains good academic standing with the university. These funds are administered by the university and are not GLABSE funds.

Please find the following documents in this packet:

1. 2015 GLABSE Scholarships 2. Parent/Student cover letter 3. Scholarship application 4. Essay guidelines

Please disseminate the enclosed materials to those students who may have an interest in applying for one of the scholarships.
