It seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Research Library manages the Museum of Australian Democracy’s Political and Parliamentary (Library) Collection. This collection features materials relating to Australian political and parliamentary history, including the development of Australia’s democracy and systems of government, Australia’s prime ministers and Old Parliament House. The Research Library supports the work of the museum, from heritage and interpretation activities to the development of exhibitions and learning programs. The Librarian position undertakes a range of duties to facilitate access to, and care for, the Political and Parliamentary (Library) Collection at the Museum of Australian Democracy. The Librarian also contributes, as a member of the Australian Prime Ministers Centre (APMC) team, to activities managed by this centre including a research program on Australian prime ministers. DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Manager, APMC the following duties will be undertaken under limited supervision, and in accordance with the APS Values and the Code of Conduct; 1. Assist with the management of the library management system including providing technical advice and support, maintaining records, cataloguing and reporting on the collection. 2. Respond to reference inquiries from the public and support museum staff in the development of public programs through research services and collection access.

3. Manage the museum’s professional memberships and subscriptions.

4. Promote awareness of and access to the collection by providing training for staff in using the catalogue, the production of newsletters, displays in public areas and other initiatives.

5. Assist with collection management tasks for the Library collection, including stocktake and collection care.

6. Undertake other tasks as part of the APMC team, including tasks relating to the museum’s website.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Experience with automated cataloguing using Softlink Liberty or similar library database and familiarity with searching Libraries Australia and other bibliographic databases online.

2. Experience delivering a wide range of library services and problem solving to achieve good outcomes.

3. Tertiary qualifications in Librarianship or equivalent experience.

4. The ability to work effectively and flexibly as a team member, including good communication skills.

5. Demonstrated knowledge and capacity to apply: the APS values, participative management practices, workplace diversity principles, and work health and safety
