Road/Rail

Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor Stage 1 (Current) Scope: Dual passenger railway line will be built to new Richlands railway station with 650-space car park. Four-lane Centenary Highway from the intersection of Boundary and Kelliher Roads at Richlands to north of the Logan Motorway Interchange. Status: Due for completion 2011 Contractor: Horizon Alliance (Queensland Rail and the Department of Main Roads with John Holland Pty Ltd, GHD Pty Ltd and Kellogg Brown and Root Pty Ltd (KBR)). Expenditure: $800 million.

Rail

Beerwah Rail Crossing Project (Current) Scope: Part of the Caboolture to Landsborough Rail Duplication project. Beerwah level crossing is to be eliminated. A road connection will be built over the rail line south of the Beerwah CBD. Status: Completion due 2009 Contractor: TrackStar Alliance (Queensland Rail, Thiess United Group (a joint venture between Thiess Pty Ltd and United Group Infrastructure), Connell Wagner and Maunsell Australia.) Expenditure: $70 million

Caboolture to Beerburrum Duplication (Current) Scope: Straightening and duplication of 14km of rail line between Caboolture and Beerburrum. Includes road realignments and station upgrades. Status: Completion due 2009 Contractor: TrackStar Alliance Expenditure: $275 million.

Corinda to Darra Third Track (Current) Scope: Upgrade 5.2km rail line from Corinda to Darra and upgrade Darra and Oxley stations. Status: Completion due 2010 Contractor: TrackStar Alliance Expenditure: $189 million.

Jilalan Rail Yard Upgrade (Current) Scope: Two new bypass rail tracks, two provisioning tracks and maintenance tracks plus provisioning and wagon maintenance. Status: Completion due 2010 Contractor: Macmahon Expenditure: $400 million Northern Missing Link Project (Proposed) Scope: 69km rail link between the North Goonyella and Newlands rail systems in the northern Bowen Basin coalfields. Status: Coal companies have underwritten $27 million design phase Purpose: Allow an extra 35Mtpa coal exports through Abbot Point terminal Expenditure: $920 million

Robina to Varsity Lakes Rail Extension (Current) Scope: 4km extension of the Gold Coast rail. Also plans to construct a transit interchange at the new Varsity Lakes station. First step in the progressive extension of the Gold Coast line to Coolangatta Airport. Status: Due for completion 2010 Contractor: TrackStar Alliance Expenditure: $324.4 million.

Abbot Point Coal Terminal Stage 3 Expansion (Current) Scope: Additional onshore handling facilities, offshore berth and ship loader to Status: Operational by mid-2009 Purpose: Increase capacity from 21Mtpa to 46Mtpa. Contractor: WBM Oceanics. Expenditure: $430 million.

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Expansion Stage 7 (Current) Scope: Staged expansion from 60Mtpa to 85Mpta via third in-loading and out-loading stream, third shipholder and fourth berth, upgrades of coal handling equipment and increased stockpile capacity. Status: Completion by the end of 2008. Contractor: Connell Hatch (consultants) and Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (developer) Expenditure: $1.3 billion.

Wiggins Island Coal Terminal (Proposed) Scope: Coal terminal in the Port of Gladstone with an initial capacity of 25Mtpa Status: Construction to commence early 2009, with completion by the end of 2012. Expenditure: $1.3 billion (Stage 1).

Aurukun Mineral Resources Project (Proposed) Scope: Establish integrated bauxite mine at Aurukum, alumina refinery on the east coast. It will see the construction and improvement of facilities at the mine. Status: Early 2009 – late 2012. Contractor: Bechtel Corporation (Consultants), Chalco. Expenditure: $2.92 billion. Clermont Coal Mine (Current) Scope: Mine will be located 10km north of the township of Clermont in Central Queensland. Annual production of 12.2 million tonnes per annum of thermal coal for export Status: First coal shipments are planned for second quarter 2010. Developer: The Clermont Joint Venture (Rio Tinto Coal Australia Pty Limited (50.1%), Mitsubishi Developments Pty Limited (31.4%), J-Power Australia Pty Limited (15%) and JCD Australia Pty Ltd (3.5%)). Expenditure: $950 million

Roads:

Eastern Busway (Current) Scope: A 17.7km two-lane, two-way dedicated roadway between Buranda and Capalaba via Carindale in eastern Brisbane. Status: Preliminary work started in March. Most structural work to be finished by year- end. Contractor: Connell Wagner Expenditure: $138 million

Forgan Bridge duplication (Current) Scope: Replacement and upgrade to four lanes of the Forgan Bridge connecting Sydney Street to Kooyong Intersection, Mackay. Status: Completion due December 2009. Contractor: Golding Contractors. Expenditure: $74.91 million.

Southern Queensland Accelerated Road Rehabilitation Program (Current) Scope: Replacement of 31 timber bridges in Southern Queensland. Status: June 2007 – December 2009. Contractor: Civil Mining and Construction Pty Ltd and Queensland Bridge and Civil (bridge constructors), Wagstaff Piling Pty Ltd (pile drivers), Connell Wagner Pty Ltd (designers), Rinker Australia Pty Ltd (Humes) (pre-cast concrete product suppliers). Expenditure: $126.5 million.

Tank Street Bridge (Current) Scope: New Tank Street Bridge from the North Quay end of Tank Street in the city to Kurilpa Point in South Brisbane, adjacent to the new Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. Status: Scheduled for completion in mid to late 2009. Purpose: Completion of a pedestrian and bicycle loop linking the city and South Bank via the Goodwill Bridge. Contractor: Baulderstone Hornibrook Queensland Expenditure: $63.3 million Acacia Ridge rail crossing overpass (Current) Scope: Lower 1.4km section of the Brisbane to Sydney freight rail corridor and build two three-lane road bridges. Status: Completion due 2009 Contractor: RXR Alliance (Queensland Department of Main Roads, Queensland Rail, Connell Wagner, Bielby Holdings and JF Hull Holdings). Expenditure: $113 million

Airport Link (Proposed) Scope: Underground toll road connecting North-South Bypass Tunnel, Inner City Bypass and local road network at Bowen Hills to the northern arterials of Gympie and Stafford Roads at Kedron and Sandgate Road and the East-West Arterial in the northeast. Status: Opening in 2012 Contractor: To be announced June 2008 Expenditure: $3 billion.

Bundaberg Ring Road (Current) Scope: 14 km ring road including 5 major intersections. Status: Completion due 2009 Contractor: Maunsell Expenditure: $92 million.

Caloundra Road upgrade - Bruce Highway to Pierce Avenue (Current) Scope: Upgrade of Caloundra Road from two to four lanes. Status: Completion late 2008 Contractor: FRH Group. Expenditure: $80 million

Centenary Highway extension (Current) Scope: Extend highway at Springfield to the Cunningham Highway at Yamanto. Status: Completion due 2009. Contractor: Leighton Contractors Expenditure: $366 million

Deception Bay Road upgrade (Proposed) Scope: Upgrade between Bruce Highway and Lipscombe Rd Status: Design being finalised. Project consultants: Kellogg Brown and Root Expenditure: Approved funding of $96 million.

Gateway Upgrade Project (Current) Scope: Duplication of Gateway Bridge including a new shared pedestrian/cycle path; Gateway Motorway deviation, additional motorway lanes and improved connections to the Motorway from Wynnum Road, Lytton Road, the Port of Brisbane Motorway and Kingsford Smith Drive; refurbishment of the existing Gateway Bridge. Status: Due for completion in 2011. Purpose: Faster travel times and improved access to Brisbane Airport Contractor: Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture Expenditure: $1.88 billion

Gold Coast Highway, Government Road to North Street (Current) Scope: Upgrade remaining two-lane sections. Status: Robert Street to Stevens Street completed early 2008. Government Road to Robert Street – design underway. Construction will be in stages Contractor: Stage 1 – Seymour Whyte. Stages 2 and 3 are both in the final design stage; contracts for construction have not yet been awarded. Expenditure: $79 million

Houghton Highway Duplication Project (Current) Scope: 2.7 km bridge between Brisbane and Redcliffe located 35m east of existing bridge. Status: Completion due 2011 Contractor: Main Roads and Hull-Albem Joint Venture Expenditure: $315 million

Ipswich Motorway upgrade: Dinmore to Goodna (Proposed) Scope: Widen motorway to six lanes, new service roads Status: To commence early 2009. Completion due 2012 Expenditure: $1.1 billion

Ipswich Motorway upgrade: Ipswich-Logan Interchange (Current) Scope: Upgrade Ipswich-Logan Interchange and 2km of motorway between Goodna and Gailes. Status: Completion due early 2009 Contractor: Leighton Contractors Pty Limited Expenditure: $255 million

Ipswich Motorway upgrade: Wacol to Darra (Current) Scope: Widening of Ipswich Motorway from the Logan Motorway at Gailes to Jervis Street at Darra (5km) from four to six lanes (with provision for eight lanes in the future), a major upgrade of the Centenary Highway Interchange and a number of new bridges. Contractor: SAFElink Alliance (Main Roads, Leighton, BMD, Maunsell and Arup) Expenditure: $700 million

Maroochydore Road upgrade (Current) Scope: Upgrade Maroochydore Road to four lanes between the Bruce Highway and Martins Creek (east of Kunda Park). Status: Completion due this year Purpose: To provide higher flood immunity and ease congestion. Expenditure: $90 million Multi-modal transport corridor (Caloundra Road to the Sunshine Motorway, Sunshine Coast) (Proposed) Scope: Motorway from Creekside Boulevard to the Sunshine Motorway; upgrade Mooloolah River Interchange on the Sunshine Motorway; widen Sunshine Motorway between the Kawana Way and the Mooloolah River interchange; new road on the western side of the Sunshine Motorway between the Mooloolah River interchange and Mooloolaba Road; railway line will run from Beerwah to Maroochydore. Status: Detailed planning underway Consultants: PB (formerly Parsons Brinckerhoff) and Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) Expenditure: More than $2 billion

Northern Busway (Royal Children’s Hospital to Kedron) (Proposed) Scope: Busway connecting Inner Northern Busway at Herston to Bracken Ridge via Windsor, Lutwyche, Kedron, Chermside and Aspley. Status: To be completed by 2012. Contractor: To be announced in June Expenditure: $728 million.

Sunshine Motorway –- Maroochydore Road to David Low Way, including Maroochy River Bridge (Current) Scope: New three-lane bridge across the Maroochy River, east of the existing bridge; widening of the existing bridge to three lanes for northbound traffic; duplication of 5km of the motorway from two to four lanes between Maroochydore Road and David Low Way; upgrading the Maroochydore Road interchange. Status: Due for completion late this year Contractor: Seymour Whyte (motorway duplication); JF Hull (bridge). Expenditure: $104 million.

Sunshine Motorway Upgrade-Pacific Paradise Interchange and Bypass (Current) Scope: New interchange on the Sunshine Motorway, north of David Low Way; northern bypass of Pacific Paradise; removal of U-turn facility at old Toll Plaza; duplication of a 2km section of motorway from David Low Way to the new Pacific Paradise interchange. Status: To be completed by December 2008. Contractor: Basic Construction (Pacific Paradise bypass), Bellero/ARK Joint Venture. Expenditure: $85 million

Tugun Bypass project (Current) Scope: Bypass will take traffic to the west of the Gold Coast Airport, connecting to the Stewart Road interchange at Currumbin and the Tweed Heads Bypass north of Kennedy Drive at Tweed Heads West. Status: Scheduled for completion mid 2008 Contractor: PacificLink Alliance (Queensland Main Roads, Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd and SMEC Australia Pty Ltd). Expenditure: $543 million

Water: Cairns Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades (Current) Scope: Upgrade of the Southern, Northern, Marlin Coast and Edmonton wastewater treatment plants increasing capacity and including biological nutrient removal processes. Status: Six-year project overall (1 complete) Contractor: Alliance – Cairns Water, Cairns City Council, United Group Limited Infrastructure, CEC Construction, GHD and Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM). Expenditure: $118 million.

Connors River Dam (Proposed) Scope: The dam will provide storage capacity of about 153,000 megalitres (ML) and deliver an additional 70,000ML per year of water to South East Queensland on completion. Status: Declared a significant project Expenditure: $120 million

Gold Coast desalination project (Current) Scope: Desalination plant to supply 167 megalitres of water a day to the Gold Coast and South East Queensland to be built at Tugun. Status: Marine tunnels – Completion July 2008. Overall – begin producing water by November 31, 2008, reaching full capacity by January 2009. Contractor: GCD Alliance comprising of Veoila Water, John Holland Group, Gold Coast Water and SKM Consulting. Expenditure: In excess of $1 billion.

Hinze Dam (Stage 3) (Current) Scope: Raising dam wall from 93.5m to 108.5m, Status: Stage 3 – January 2008 to December 2010. Purpose: Boost water supply and ensure future flood mitigation. Contractor: Hinze Dam Alliance (Gold Coast City Council, Theiss Pty Ltd, Sinclair Knight Merz and URS). Expenditure: $395 million.

Luggage Point Advanced Water Treatment Plant (Current) Scope: New water treatment plant will supply up to 66ML per day Status: Completion due December this year Contractor: Luggage Point Alliance (Hatch, Connell Wagner, CH2MHill and Laing O’Rourke). Expenditure: $300 million

Energy:

Ballera Lateral Gas Pipeline (Current) Scope: 1200km pipeline from Keelbottom Creek, north of Charters towers, to Ballera to connect to Carpenteria, Wallumbilla and Moomba pipelines. Status: Completion due 2009/10. Purpose: Allow gas sales to Mount Isa, Brisbane and southern markets. Contractor: AGL Petronas Consortium Expenditure: $1 billion

Moranbah and Nebo Power Stations (Current) Scope: 120MW gas-fired, intermediate power station near Moranbah and a 300MW gas- fired, peaking power station near Nebo; 97km gas pipeline to the northern Bowen Basin west of Mackay. Status: Operational by the fourth quarter of this year. Contractor: Maunsell Australia Expenditure: $800 million

Spring Gully Power Station (Current) Scope: 1000MW combined cycle gas-fired power station in two 500MW blocks utilising coal seam methane gas. Status: To be completed in 2009. Contractor: URS Australia Expenditure: $1 billion

Ports / Airports:

Cairns International Airport Upgrade (Current) Scope: The upgrade of the domestic terminal includes five new aerobridges, a bigger terminal, more shopping, and a better car park. Status: Due to finish late 2009/early 2010. Expenditure: $140 million.

Brisbane Airport Parallel Runway (Proposed) Scope: Parallel runway west of existing runway. Status: Construction from 2009 to 2015. Expenditure: More than $1 billion.

Townsville Ocean Terminal (Current) Scope: Cruise ship terminal and military facility as part of marina residential and commercial development near Jupiters Hotel and Casino. Status: EIS public consultation completed. Expenditure: $1 billion

WATER

Western Corridor Recycled Water Project (Current) Scope: 104km eastern pipeline from Luggage Point to Bundamba; 80.4km eastern pipeline from Bundamba to Caboonbah; three recycled water treatment plants Status: Completion by end of 2008. Contractor: GHD, Transfield Sevices, AJ Lucas and McCalls Expenditure: $2 billion

Southern Regional Water Pipeline (Current) Scope: More than 100km of pipeline connecting water supplies in South East Queensland. Status: Complete by end of 2008. Contractor: Alliance – KBR, McConnell Dowell and Abigroup. Expenditure: $680 million

Traveston Crossing Dam (Proposed) Scope: Covering 9800 hectares at full capacity, to be located 16km south of Gympie, in the Mary River catchment. Status: To begin in 2009. Stage 1 – 2011. Stage 2 – 2025. Stage 3 – 2035 (if required) Expenditure: Stage 1 – $1.7 billion

ROADS

Northern Access Road project (Current) Scope: Links the interchange on the new Gateway Motorway deviation to the domestic and international terminals. Status: Completion due mid-2009 Contractor: Leighton Contractors Expenditure: $200 million

Hale Street Link Project (Current) Scope: 300m four-lane tolled cross-river bridge between Milton and South Brisbane. Status: Completion due December 2010 Contractor: Hale Street Link Alliance (Brisbane City Council, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Macmahon Contractors Limited, Seymour Whyte Constructors Limited, Hyder Consulting) Expenditure: $200 million
