NASPSPA BUSINESS AND AWARD LUNCH MEETING June 17, 2016 Montreal, Canada

The following EC members were present: President Jennifer Etnier, Past-President Gabriele Wulf, President-Elect Daniela Corbetta, Secretary-Treasurer Thomas Raedeke, Communication Director Quincy Almeida, Student Representative Kara Palmer, and Past-Presidents’ Liaison Maureen Weiss. Penny McCullagh, NASPSPA Conference Coordinator, was also present. Howard Zelaznik served as the meeting parliamentarian.

1. President Jennifer Etnier called the meeting to order at 1 pm.

2. The minutes from last year’s 2015 Business and Award Lunch meeting and the 2016 agenda were approved.

3. Etnier introduced the new officers including President-Elect Steve Bray, Secretary-Treasurer Leah Robinson, and Student Representative Tayo Moss.

4. Secretary-Treasurer’s report (Raedeke) a. NASPSPA has a record high 734 members with a roughly even split between professional and student members. The number of members is 228 higher than the prior five year average. Overall, 29 countries are represented in this year’s membership. b. For the 2014-2015 fiscal year, NASPSPA had an ending balance of $39,996.17 for a net loss of $7,637.14. Currently, NASPSPA has $57,873.48 in checking and $24,751.15 in a money market account for a total of $82,624.63.

5. Communication Director’s report (Almeida) a. The glitches associated with the new website are being remedied. b. The NASPSPA Facebook and twitter account are no longer being used due to difficulties locating the account information and password. Jody Jensen recommended that the NASPSPA has a social media presence.

6. Student Representative’s report (Palmer) a. Student conference opportunities were highlighted (e.g., student-faculty event luncheon, student meeting, and student social). For the student faculty luncheon, 48 students and 10 faculty participated. b. Student award opportunities were reviewed (e.g., international conference travel, outstanding student paper awards and research grants) with notation that updates and reminders are available at the NASPSPA student facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1188371097842929/130092223658781 4/?notif_t=group_activity¬if_id=1465575297811423 2

c. The new student representative, Tayo Moss was welcomed.

7. Past-President Report (Wulf) a. Attendance at this year’s conference is a record high with N = 663. b. Wulf thanked Penny McCullagh, Diane Mehling, and the student workers (Valaine Confessor, Devyn Richards, Hiro Iwatsuki, Danielle Alexander, Emile Michalovi & Keryn Chemtrob) for their help. The Area Program Chairs (David Wright, Bernard Straus, and Priscila Cacola) and committee members were recognized for creating a strong scientific program.

8. Present and Continuing Business a. The motion to revise the wording of Article 2 describing the organization purpose to read “The purpose of the Society is to develop and advance the study of human movement and physical activity through the fields of Motor Learning/Control/Development and Sport and Exercise Psychology” was approved. b. The motion to revise Article 10 Election of Officers, part 10.3 by adding a sentence stating that “Members of the Student Nominations Committee cannot be from the same institution as any of the candidates” was approved.

9. Tribute was paid to current and former NASPSPA members who have passed away since our last conference including: Antoinette M. Gentile (1936-2016), W. Neil Widmeyer (1937-2015), Richard A. Schmidt (1941-2015), and Jennifer Romack (1959-2016). Etnier also thanked Maureen Weiss and Daniella Corbetta for their development of the NASPSPA memorial process.

10. Award Presentations a. The recipients of the JSEP and JMLD awards sponsored by Human Kinetics include the following: 1. JSEP Excellence in Research Award: Dr. Mirko Schmidt, Katja Jäger, Fabienne Egger, Claudia M. Roebers, and Achim Conzelmann (University of Bern). 2. JSEP Excellence in Reviewing Award: Sarah Buck (Chicago State University). 3. JMLD Excellence in Research Award Scott Ducharme (University of Massachusetts) and Will Wu (California State University, Long Beach). 4. JMLD Excellence in Reviewing Award: Priscila Cacola (University of Texas at Arlington). b. After recognizing previous Early Distinguished Career Award Recipients, the 2016 recipients include Tony Carlsen (University of Ottawa) and Ben Jackson (University of Western Australia). c. Jill Whitall (University of Maryland, Baltimore) was recognized with a President’s Award for her service to NASPSPA. 3

d. Outstanding Student Paper Award recipients include Sport and Exercise Psychology: Jenna Gilchrist (University of Toronto), Motor Development: Till Utesch (University of Münster, Germany), and Motor Learning and Control: Chaoyi Wang (Texas A & M). a. Graduate Student Research Grant recipients include Ana Kovacevik (McMaster), Natalie Lander (Deakin University), and Rebecca Wiener (University of Tennessee). b. Graduate Student Award for International Conference Travel recipient was Rebecca Chow (Wilfrid Laurier University).

11. Future Conferences (McCullagh) a. This year we had a record high 665 abstract submissions. b. Future abstract submission deadlines may change to an earlier date given that a small group of individuals reviews and creates the program. c. For 2017, the abstract submission due date is January 16, 2017 with Outstanding Student Paper Award submissions due January 30, 2017. d. The rotation for future conferences was reviewed (East, Middle, West). The 50th anniversary conference in San Diego (2017) will have a historical flair in addition to the scientific program. The 2018 conference will be held in Denver Colorado. e. The importance of booking rooms early and staying at the conference hotel was reiterated. f. The 2017 conference will start on Sunday and end on a Wednesday (June 4-8).

12. Etnier acknowledged past executive committee members in attendance and recognized outgoing officers for their contributions including Wulf (Past- President), Raedeke (Secretary-Treasurer), and Palmer (Student Representative).

13. Etnier passed the gavel to President-Elect Daniela Corbetta who adjourned the meeting at 1:54
