Dear YWCA Member:

As we celebrate 90 years in Cobb County, we reflect back upon the many different services that we have been able to provide to our community throughout the years. I am proud to say that we have been leaders, setting the example for others to follow. We sent packages to soldiers overseas during World Wars I and II; supported one of the first organizations to open its doors to people of diversity; opened the first domestic violence shelter in Georgia; built high-quality accredited childcare centers in Cobb and Paulding counties; and the list goes on and on. Throughout the years, the services of the YWCA have changed as the needs of our community have changed.

When our pool opened 40 years ago, we were the leader – it was the first indoor pool in Cobb County. We know that many residents learned how to swim as well as played with their families in the pool. Over the last several years, because of the increase of neighborhood pools and other indoor pools in our community, the YWCA has had a significant decrease in pool memberships.

It is time for the YWCA to once again be a leader – this time a leader in fiscal responsibility to our members and community. Without the pool membership support and because of the cost associated with the upkeep of the pool, the Board of Directors has had to make a very difficult decision. On Friday, September 14, 2007, the pool at the YWCA of NW Georgia will officially close. This was a very tough decision. However, one that the whole board felt was integral in our continued financial success as an organization and as our community needs are changing, the focus of our services and resources must also shift.

Through September 14, the pool will remain open for lap and open swim only Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. unless posted otherwise.

At this time, we are diligently working on an aquatic membership partnership between a facility in Cobb County and the YWCA. Once this is finalized, we will notify you with the details.

Again, we appreciate your support of this important decision. As we move forward into our next 90 years, your continued support of the YWCA of NW Georgia through your membership is vital to provide programs and services to our community which supports our mission of empowering women and eliminating racism. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 770-427-2902.

Sincerely,

Tracy L. Sirmans Holly L. Comer Board Chairwoman Executive Director
