Dear Parents/Guardians

The introduction of iPads in our middle schools has proven to be an exceptional instructional resource. The variety of applications has enhanced the learning experience across all content areas.

In order to prepare the iPads for use during the new state PARCC assessments next year, iPads must be returned to the district for the summer and equipment upgrades must be performed. We apologize for this inconvenience.

During the week of June 9th, your child will be required to bring in their iPad in the district-issued iPad case. Seventh grade iPads will be collected on June 10th and sixth grade iPads will be collected on June 11th. The condition of all iPads will be assessed to determine if they are in need of any repairs prior to the upgrade. If your child’s iPad requires such attention, you will be contacted so that arrangements may be made through AppleCare and to collect your payment.

In response to parent feedback, moving forward, we are happy to announce the introduction of a new insurance plan for all district-issued iPads next year. For a flat fee of $50 per year, this insurance provides coverage for all types of breakage and theft. Enrollment in this program opens on August 18th for a three week period and will be completed on-line by parents/guardians. You will be hearing more about this opportunity; however, if you choose not to purchase the insurance, you assume personal responsibility for repair or replacement of your child’s iPad.

Please make sure your child returns their iPad to school next week.

Thank you for your continued support of this forward- looking student learning opportunity.

Sincerely,

Deidre Ortiz C: Mrs. Rafferty, Superintendent of Schools
