Word of the Day rejoinder Fast Comeback Word of the Day: Back in the day, rejoinder had a specific meaning in law: it's what a defendant said in response to a claimant's reply. That meaning has fallen aside and today, rejoinder is used mostly to characterize a reply that is subsequent to the first one, or that is particularly fast or witty. The word is from Anglo- French, like many legal terms that eventually found a home in the mainstream.
