Private Music Instruction

PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION Grade: Preschool-12 Schedule: Fall/Spring semesters Cost per lesson: 30 minutes: $15; 45 minutes: $20; 1 hour: $30 Teacher: Jennifer Lorentzen Contact Info: [email protected]; 701-527-1788 or (812) 752-2144

I will be offering private instruction in violin, viola, cello, beginning piano, voice, and flute. The objective of this course is to learn to be proficient at your instrument and enjoy your own music. Class time will be spent learning music, technique, playing exercises and scales, and learning basic music theory. Requirements for this class are a desire to learn music, motivation to practice the determined amount (usually 30 minutes daily at first), and willingness to follow direction. An instrument will be required; I am willing to help find good instruments that will fit the student. String instruments come in fractional sizes and must be measured for the student. Materials required will depend on the method desired by student and a notebook/pencil for note taking. For strings I typically use Suzuki method and Mark O’Connor method books and matching CD but I am flexible. Flute methods I typically use are Suzuki or any standard method book. Beginning piano I prefer the Alfred method but occasionally supplement with Suzuki method piano. Homework is to practice the music and exercises covered in class, I send notes for daily practice sessions. This is a participation-based class, if you don't show up or practice you will be graded appropriately. If for some reason you must be absent I appreciate advanced notice and I am willing to make up lessons. A little about me, I am Jennifer Lorentzen from Bismarck, North Dakota. I have two blonde haired boys ages 8 (Hanz) and 6 (Ezra) along with a Viking husband Hollis they are the loves of my life and occupy most of my energy. I started playing piano self- taught at the age of 4 when I color-coded my sister's piano to teach myself how to read music. I started formal piano lesson at age 7, flute lessons at age 8 and violin lesson at age 9. I was home educated from grade 3 until I started Bismarck State college my senior year where I received an A.A with emphasis in music. I went on the study music education at the University of Mary in Bismarck where I received my B.A in music. I have experience in North Dakota working for multiple conservatories and schools, was a member of the Bismarck-mandan symphony orchestra and Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra. My family moved to Indiana last spring to be close to family and I have been enjoying spending my time here teaching music for SHA and Rock Creek Community Academy.
