“Respect is not imposed nor begged. It’s earned and offered.” Anonymous WELCOME

The Charles Gordon Staff extend a warm welcome to all the new and returning families to our community. The new school year is underway and we look forward to another exciting year. The school office is open Monday to Friday from 8AM to 4:30. Our voice mail is on at all other times. If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher or the Administration, please feel free to call the school to set up an appointment. Our phone number is (416) 396-6130.

THANK YOU!

Thanks to our caretakers Mr. Saurer and Mr. Kirkpatrick for working hard over the summer to make the building look great. Thank you to the Office Staff – Ms. Ezeard and Ms. Bowcott for having the office all set to run smoothly for the coming year. Lastly, thanks to the Gordon teaching staff for doing a great job of preparing their classrooms to receive our students.

CLASS HOURS

Start 8:50 – 11:36 Lunch 11:36 – 12:26 Start 12:31 – 3:07

KISS AND RIDE

We are very happy to see and hear positive feedback from many of our parents who have helped us to make the ‘Kiss and Ride” work! Firstly, we strongly encourage all of our students to walk to school. It’s healthy and promotes physical fitness. For those parents who choose to drive, then we ask to have your children be dropped off at the “Kiss and Ride” at the front of the school. Vice Principal McKeown and/or Principal Terminesi will be on duty preventing cars from entering the Gordon parking lot. Again, please drop off your child on Marcos Blvd and do not make “3 Point Turns”. In the past, Toronto Police Services has ticketed cars and the school is NOT held responsible.

BEING ON TIME FOR SCHOOL

Punctuality is an important life skill. Whether for appointments or for work, adults know the importance of being on time. Children learn this important value through being on time for school. School entry is at 8:50. There is supervision in the schoolyard starting at 8:35. VISITOR CHECK IN

When coming to the school to drop off items, deliver messages or pick up children, we ask all visitors to enter using the front door (buzzer and camera system is in place). First stop in at the office and let the ladies know the reason for your visit. Leave lunch or other items at the office to minimize disruptions to lessons and routines. PLEASE DO NOT BY- PASS THE OFFICE.

HPV / HEP B

Each year Toronto Public Health offers free HPV vaccine to Grade 8 female students and Hep B vaccine to all Grade 7 students through immunization clinics in schools. Both are very safe and effective vaccines and are administered by the Public Health Nurses.

SAFE ARRIVAL PROGRAM

You will receive an automated call from the School Board if your child is away and we have NOT received a call from you by 8:30 am. Please listen carefully to the ENTIRE message and respond by using your telephone keypad as directed. You must press 2 at the end of the message to confirm that you have received the message. The system will repeat the calls every 5 minutes until an answer is received. The call outs begin promptly at 9:30 am so please notify the school prior to that time if your child is going to be away. If you contact the school the system will not call you. If we have not heard from you the system will call you. You then must listen to the message and respond appropriately in order to stop the calls. When leaving a message please state, child’s full name, teacher and reason for absence only. Please speak slowly and clearly. The system also calls out each evening at 6PM. The purpose of this program is to ensure that each child arrives at school safely each morning and afternoon. Parent/Guardians are expected to notify the school when their child will be absent or late. Please call the school at (416) 396-6395 for attendance. Voice mail is in operation from 4:30 PM to 8:30 AM of the following morning.
