Peer Mentor Job Description:

Peer mentors provide leadership for the First Year Experience office by serving as campus role models and providing guidance to new students adjusting to college life by helping them problem solve and connect to campus resources. Peer mentors also play key leadership roles in the facilitation of New Student Orientations and other First Year Experience events. The program takes place during the Fall semester.

Peer mentors must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications: Desired personal qualities:

 Have completed 12 credit hours at CPCC  Positive attitude  Minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average  Strong interpersonal skills  Established leadership skills at CPCC or in the  Communication skills community  Problem solving skills  Must be available to participate in Peer  Self-motivation Mentor Training  Ability to work well with others  Ability to dedicate a minimum of 2 hours per  Knowledge of the CPCC’s week to mentoring during the Fall semester resources

 Will be enrolled in 6 credit hours during the  Computer skills (Microsoft Word & Fall semester email)

Peer Mentors have the following responsibilities:

 Participate in a two day Peer Mentor training  Assist with New Student Orientation(s)  Meet with 2 mentees, one hour per week  Help mentees become familiar with the college’s resources; advise and refer students to appropriate resources as the need arises  Record observations and submit monthly reports to the First Year Experience Coordinator  Attend a monthly meeting with the First Year Experience Coordinator  Assist with closing ceremony at the end of the semester

Compensation: Peer mentors receive a stipend of $200.00 at the end of the Fall semester.

 Peer Mentor application with reference letter and evaluation  Unofficial copy of your CPCC transcripts

The selection committee will review all applications and schedule interviews for selected candidates. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will be notified via email.
