City of St. Charles 175th Anniversary: Display must reflect a 175th Anniversary theme. OPEN to ALL! Children’s: Open to children (groups or individuals) 12 years or younger. Minimal adult assistance please! Traditional: Display must have a scarecrow(s) that resemble those found in fields & gardens for centuries. Whimsical: Whimsical character(s) (does not have to resemble a scarecrow) made of any material. Mechanical: (ONLY category provided with electric) Entries may be full of whimsy & fun with moving parts. Electricity must be the ONLY means of mechanization. Entrants supply a 50 ft. outdoor extension cord. This category is OPEN to ALL! St. Charles Business: Open to all businesses residing in St. Charles. Display may reflect & promote your business. Area Business: Open to “for-profit” businesses not located in St. Charles. Display may reflect & promote your business.

Businesses may participate in the St. Charles Business or Area Business, 175th Anniversary, and Mechanical categories! Traditional & Whimsical Categories are open to individuals, groups & families (ages: 13 and over) NEW! 175th Anniversary & Mechanical Categories are OPEN to ALL!

Thank you for joining the fun . . . your creations are the “heart & soul” of the Festival ! Important Information & Contest Rules Scarecrow Entries (please no hand-outs at your display) ♦All entries to be displayed from Thursday afternoon, Oct. 8 thru 6pm Sunday, Oct. 11th. ♦All entries receive a 4’x 4’ foot area. Larger spaces are available upon request if we are notified by September 30th, but must be limited to an 8’ x 8’ area. ♦Multiple Scarecrows, whimsical characters and/or miscellaneous props may be displayed in the 4’x 4’ area. ♦One entry per category per person, family, business, or organization. ♦Entries in multiple categories are permitted. ♦Please no hand-out at your display – flyers are only given out at sponsor or vendor booths.

Theme ♦Scarecrow(s) for display may reflect a “special” theme and/or promote a business or organization. ♦Scarecrows must be in good taste & constructed to withstand the weather. ♦Scarecrows reflecting controversial, social, religious or political opinions or statements will not be accepted. Visitors Bureau reserves the right to remove any scarecrow it deems inappropriate. Design ♦Scarecrow entries/designs must be NEW each year and weather proof. ♦Review the rules of each category before submitting the entry form. The Visitors Bureau reserves the right to change the category if the scarecrow does not meet the criteria of submitted category. ♦No items such as tiki torches or gas-powered generators allowed. ♦All categories may display lights (powered by batteries only unless in Mechanical Category) ♦Mechanical Category are the only entries that receive electricity. Signage ♦Signs may be placed at each display to announce your scarecrow’s name, business, organization or club affiliation. Please use weather proof signs.

Check in & setup: ♦Detailed check-in, setup, and take down information will be sent to the email/street address provided on the entry form two weeks before the festival. Set-up is Wed., Oct. 7th (3-8) & Thursday, Oct. 8th (1-8).
