It Happened to Nancy Project

Objective: To create a “quilt” similar to the AIDS quilts you have seen on the Internet. You will create “squares” containing images which tell Nancy’s story of her life as contained in her diary. You will use your key/important events list to determine the images on each section of your “quilt.”

Guidelines for the project: 1. You may do this on poster board, fabric, or other approved material. You may use markers, printed media, construction paper, or other approved material to decorate. (Minimum completed size: 22” x 28”) 2. You must include a minimum of 15 key events and a maximum of 20 “squares.” On each section you will decide on a way to chronologically picture/symbolize/illustrate each key event you have chosen. You may do this in a variety of ways, i.e. drawing, cutting out, using words, etc. 3. Include the title of the novel punctuated correctly on the front of your “quilt.” Your name, due date, and period must be located in the upper, right corner on the back of your project. Include some type of colored border that has meaning/symbolism that you will explain. 4. You will also turn in a separate paper with the written explanation of your sections and what your symbols/illustrations/graphics/ border represent. Label this paper: It Happened to Nancy Quilt Explanation. This must be done using complete sentences and your best writing skills. You must type it using MLA format --black ink size 12 Times New Roman font. (Include a mini diagram of your order of sections.) 5. This must be your own original creation. Your project will be graded on neatness, creativity, following directions, organization, even flow of thoughts, and grammar/writing skills. It should be colorful and interesting. 6. Be prepared to briefly share this with the class on the due date. You will be asked to share some of the highlights of your project with the class. The due date for this project is Monday, December 14th at the beginning of class. (10 points deducted if not totally complete when you arrive in class. This is one of those major assignments that must be turned in this day or is counted late even if you are absent.)
