2137 Calgary Highlanders Cadet Corps www.calgaryhighlanderscadets.com 801 11th Street SW. Calgary, AB T2P 2C4 Phone: 403.263.1796 Email: [email protected] Welcome to the 2137 Calgary Highlanders Cadet Corps! Thank you for choosing to enroll in one of the best youth programs Canada has to offer. Canada’s Cadet program serves youth ages 12 to 18 by focusing on building valuable skills that will benefit your child into adulthood. Cadet Corps use fun activities such as recreational team sports, biathlon, marksmanship, trekking, reconnaissance (Recce) training, orienteering, conservation and hunter education, camping, field craft, abseiling, music, first-aid training, military marching and parades, summer camps, international trips, and citizenship activities and tours to teach Cadets teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, clear communication, how to teach, interpersonal skills, and other valuable skills.

There are no membership, registration or summer camp fees for Cadets. Even though the Cadet program is government funded, there is never any obligation to join the Canadian Armed Forces. While Cadets are provided a basic uniform at no cost, the uniform remains government property and has to be returned when the Cadet leaves the Corps. For weekend/overnight- training activities, most of the equipment, such as sleeping bags and pads, backpacks, outer winter clothing, etc. is provided. The attached kit list gives you an idea of what is needed and what the Corps supplies. Activity specific kit lists are handed out prior to training activities.

The supervision and training of Cadets is the responsibility of adults, the Cadet Instructors Cadre officers (CIC). CIC officers are part-time members of the Canadian Forces who are specifically trained to work with young people. They are volunteers and most have full-time jobs in addition to the work they do for our Corps. CIC officers are led by the Corps Commanding Officer (CO), Major Miroslav Novak. Screened Civilian Instructors (CI) and Civilian Volunteers (CV) assist the CO and his CIC team. All the adult leaders and volunteers welcome your questions or you can arrange a meeting with Major Novak.

We train (parade) Thursday evenings from 18:15 to 21:15 hours (6:15 to 9:15 pm) at Mewata Armouries, 801 11th Street SW - the castle looking building South of the old Science Centre at the western edge of the downtown.
