1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CHARLES R. “RUSS” WOOD, 12 KNOWN TO HIS BROADCAST FANS AS “RUSS T. 13 FENDER,” AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR 14 TWENTYFIVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING 15 BROADCASTING IN THE ORANGEBURG COMMUNITY. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives are pleased to learn that Russ Wood, the 19 celebrated Orangeburg radio host known as Russ T. Fender, is 20 celebrating a quarter of a century of broadcasting in the 21 Orangeburg area; and 22 23 Whereas, a native of Orangeburg, he graduated from 24 OrangeburgWilkinson High School and served his country with 25 pride in the United States Army; and 26 27 Whereas, in February of 1988 when he began working for the Key 28 Market Radio’s Wiggle 102.9 FM, Russ Wood embarked on his 29 lifelong dream of hosting a radio program; and 30 31 Whereas, from his beginnings on a single FM station in 32 Orangeburg, his voice is now heard in the Palmetto State 33 throughout the Midlands, PeeDee, and Lowcountry, and now with 34 the advent of Internet streaming, he has a worldwide audience; and 35 36 Whereas, Russ Wood has received numerous awards from the 37 South Carolina Broadcast Association with a total of seventeen 38 trophies to date for his work ranging from commercial script 39 writing to radio production and onair performance; and 40

[3479] 1 1 Whereas, for four years, he and his cohost, Haley Aull Gulley, 2 have hosted “The Ride with Russ and Haley” for a large listening 3 audience on WGFG 105.3 FM Cat Country; and 4 5 Whereas, his persona, Russ T. Fender, is also heard daily on 6 WQKIFM, WWBD Bad Dog 94.7 FM, and WFRKFM and other 7 stations under the auspices of Sumterbased Miller 8 Communications; and 9 10 Whereas, actively committed to the Orangeburg community, he 11 has served as the master of ceremonies and a performer for talent 12 showcases and charity events and has performed onstage with 13 local community theatre groups; and 14 15 Whereas, locally he is a member and participant in such 16 organizations as the Calhoun Players, Orangeburg Part Time 17 Players, the Chamber of Commerce, Orangeburg County Animal 18 Shelter, Orangeburg County Young Professionals, Toys for Tots, 19 the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the American Lung 20 Association, the South Carolina Kidney Association, the March of 21 Dimes, Orangeburg Newcomers Club, and the Downtown 22 Orangeburg Revitalization Association; and 23 24 Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Stacey Yon Wood, he 25 has reared a fine daughter, Abigale Grace Wood; and 26 27 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 28 Representatives are grateful for the service and entertainment that 29 Russ Wood has provided in the greater Orangeburg community 30 and look to hear of his continued accomplishment in the future. 31 Now, therefore, 32 33 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 34 35 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 36 by this resolution, recognize and honor Charles R. “Russ” Wood, 37 known to his broadcast fans as “Russ T. Fender,” and congratulate 38 him for twentyfive years of outstanding broadcasting in the 39 Orangeburg community. 40 41 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 42 Charles R. “Russ” Wood, broadcast personality “Russ T.
