Monday---Unit 16 Lesson 1 Skill: Consonant cluster str Teacher will write the following words on the board: grin, stop, and truck and ask students what are the beginning sounds of these words called? Consonant blends How many consonants to a consonant blend? Two. In this lesson you will learn about consonant clusters. A consonant cluster has three consonant clusters. Teacher will display str. The 3 sounds are mixed together. S, t, and r are stirred together to say /str/ like in strong. Teacher will build the word strong and display on board. Teacher will model and students will practice skywriting str by holding non dominant arm arched like holding a bowl. Say each sound while skywriting symbol inside bowl and stirring sounds together. Teacher will place worksheet 16-3 under the document camera. Students will practice finger blending and choral reading str words and sentences. Stir thumb for clusters just like stirring thumb for beginning blends. This sheet will be sent home for reading homework. Teacher will also place the story, “Wet Socks” under the document camera. Students will practice choral reading and discussing story, using finger spelling for phonetic words and arm tapping for sight words as needed. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Tuesday---Unit 16 Lesson 2 Skill: consonant cluster spr Class will review the str consonant cluster from Lesson 1 by skywriting str and also by completing the following activities: Teacher will place the worksheet 16-3 under the document camera and students will practice choral reading and popcorn reading. Spell Tabs: Teacher will dictate the following words and students will finger spell and write the words: strap, stress, string, strong, strum Dictation: Teacher will dictate the following sentences and students will count the number of words and write each, using finger spelling for phonetic words and arm tapping for sight words as needed: 1. The pup has the string. 2. Did you fix the strap on your backpack?

Students will check their work together and teacher will ask for a couple of students’ papers for formative assessment. Teacher will place the story, “Wet Socks” under the document camera. Students will choral and popcorn read, and also discuss the story. Students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up quizzes and class will then discuss what answers that they should have marked. Wednesday---Unit 16 Lesson 2 Skill: Consonant cluster spl Students will review previous consonant clusters str and spr by completing the following activities: Students will skywrite str and spr. Teacher will place the worksheets 16-3 and 16-7 under the document camera. Students will practice choral reading. Teacher will place the story, “Springs” under the document camera and students will practice choral and popcorn reading, also discussing the story. Students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up quizzes and then students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz. Teacher will display the spl consonant cluster and say that spl says s, p, l stir /spl/ like in the word split. Mom will split the muffin. Students will practice skywriting the consonant cluster spl. Teacher will place the worksheet 16-11 under the document camera. Students will practice finger blending and choral reading spl words and sentences. This sheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Thursday---Unit 16 Lesson 2 Skill: consonant cluster scr Students will review previous consonant clusters str, spr, spl by completing the following activities: Students will skywrite str, spr, and spl. Teacher will place worksheets 16-3, 16-7, and 16-11 under the document camera. Students will practice choral reading sheets. Teacher will display the scr consonant cluster and say that scr says s,c,r stir /scr/ like in the word scrub. The kids had to scrub the mud off the truck. Students will practice skywriting the consonant cluster scr. Teacher will place the worksheet 16-15 under the document camera and students will practice reading scr words and sentences, using finger blending for phonetic words and arm tapping for sight words as needed. This sheet will be sent home for reading homework. Teacher will place the story, “Spring” under the document camera. Students will practice choral reading using finger blending for phonetic words and arm tapping for sight words as needed. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Friday---Unit 16 Lesson 2: phonetically irregular word were Students will review previous consonant clusters str, spr, spl, scr by completing the following activities: Students will skywrite str, spr, spl, and scr. Teacher will place worksheets 16-3, 16-7, 16-11, and 16-15 under the document camera. Students will practice choral reading sheets. Sentence Dictation: Teacher will dictate the following sentences. Students will count the number of words in each sentence and use finger spelling and arm tapping as needed to help write each sentence. 1. Peg stuffs the cloth cat with scraps. 2. Will you scrub the mud off your leg? Class will check their work together and teacher will keep a couple of papers for formative assessment. Teacher will place the story, “Spring” under the document camera. Students will practice choral and popcorn reading, also discussing the story. Students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up papers and students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz. Students will complete a spelling assessment over the following words: string, strong, struck, stress, splash, split, spring, scrap, scrub, scram.
