Project Coordinator for Millennial Engagement Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

Department: Education & Engagement Reports to: Director, Education & Engagement Employee Status: Part-time, Non-exempt, Temporary (September 2017 – June 2018) Approximately 8-10 hours a week on average Primary Work Location: Downtown

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide administrative and exhibition installation services for MCASD’s Education Department. Act as liaison between the Museum and the millennial artist involved in the project, the contractors, and the college and university communities by creating a welcoming environment for visitors to discuss and reflect upon their experiences in the Museum’s galleries. Support mission and vision of Museum throughout performance of duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Coordinate with other departments and oversee the preparation, installation, and deinstallation for Millennial Engagement exhibitions.  In collaboration with the Education & Engagement Director and artists involved in the Millennial Engagement project, design exhibition and assist in the construction of display elements.  With guidance from the Registrar Department, secure image rights of works in MCASD’s collection for e-Museum Millennial Engagement data interactive project.  Work closely with the Education & Engagement department managers to create a communication plan for each individual project.  Assist with all logistics related to the Millennial Engagement program, such as weekly seminars and workshops.  Work part-time shifts and special events, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and/or after regular business hours with prior notice as needed in the Museum’s Downtown location, on college and university campuses, and at community partner locations.  Follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.  Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Strong oral communication and public speaking skills with the ability to interact with all levels of employees, visitors, and students. Strong organizational skills with an emphasis in attention to detail and follow-up. Ability to work independently. Enthusiastic and professional demeanor. Good technical skills and a proficiency in MS Office, InDesign, Sketchup and Google +. Bachelor Degree in Studio Art or related field and two years recent, relevant experience or any equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO PAGE 1 OF 2 and/or experience in contemporary art preferred. Knowledge in exhibition installation preferred. English/Spanish bilingual skillset and/or experience with English Language Learners (ELLs) preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to learn, comprehend, retain, and reiterate information. Ability to see, listen, and talk for extended periods. Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods. Ability to remain in a sedentary position for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions, making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull, exerting up to 30 pounds or a negligible amount occasionally or otherwise move objects.

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND SPECIAL LICENSING:

Criminal background check. Ability to attend Museum-paid training and obtain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification. TB Testing and fingerprinting may be required
